"Your registration number should be reflected on the letter."

This is what SFMatch says about LORs. How does one go about getting this? I am currently doing a medicine rotation but I wont be going in the match till 2007. How can I ask for a LOR that has a registration number when I wont be registered till next year? Is this a new rule or has it always been like this? I wont be registered when I do my away rotations either so those wont have the registration number either. What gives?

Edit - I know someone may say go back to attending AFTER you have registered. But, by then, he may have forgot about me and I probably won't get as good a LOR.

you can contact the sfmatch directly with your question, but i would imagine that it's probably ok to just write your registration number on the LOR envelope, once you receive your number

I called a couple of weeks ago and I was told to write it on the envelope because I got my LOR's before I registered.

i had the same question, and sfmatch said this was fine.

Contacted SFMatch and they said its fine to have it on the envelop

Questions

- Do you guys ask attending to seal the letter and sign over the seal when they give it you initially? Sounds a little weird request..

- Do you ask the same guy for the regular match letter also? i.e. you ask the same guy to make one for ophtho and TY or Prelim year? Any special rules to follow for the regular match letter? Someone clarify this...

I asked my attendings to sign across the envelope seal when I emailed them the address to which the letter should be sent. If you think it sounds weird, mention it is specified in the application instructions. btw, sfmatch will accept letters without a problem even if the attending forgot to sign (one of mine did)...

keep in mind, the attendings being asked for letter mostly like have done this before. noone thought it was strange that i reminded them to sign across the seal, like i said they've done it every year.

you can use the same letter for regular match, no need for a different letter. u are allowed 4 on ERAS. as far as special rules, my school requires the AAMC cover sheet attached to all letters. i don't know if that's standard across the board.

just wanted to add that the SFMatch letter must be an original, but ERAS can be a copy since it will most likely be scanned in by your schol.

Hmm I see.

Since I am not registered yet, I should just get the letter from the attending and hold onto it for the regular as well as SFMatch?

Also, I see there really are no special instructions for FMG letters on the SFMatch. The only thing I see on ERAS is that they want you to sign with BLUE ink. Is that it?
And how can I give a cover letter with instructions when I am not in NRMP match till next year?
