Hey guys,

My professors are asking me who the LOR should be addressed to. Any ideas. Should it be to whom it may concern, to admissions committee or to some specific person or to no one.

Thanks for any replies

First, does your school have a service that will collect the L.O.R.'s for you? Or, I would highly recommend something like Interfolio or VirtualEvals. There's usually an accompanying evaluation/form that is good to go with the L.O.R., because some schools actually require it, while others find it helpful. And the systems I mentioned are really nice (or if your school has something similar) because then your prof won't be printing you 15 copies.

I believe he can just address it to the school itself, or their admissions committee.

Thanks! I'm from Canada so my school does not have that service. I'm applying to only 6 schools so my profs are just gonna print them out and send them. I was thinking about Interfolio but since I'm not applying to many schools I decided to not use it. Do you recommend it, is it really helpful, do all schools accept LORs from Interfolio? I know 2 of the schools I'm applying to the profs have to sign the back flap of the envelope so Interfolio wont work.

With only 6 schools I would just go for having your profs do it to avoid the hassle. I applied to 15, and I know of some folks who apply to upwards of 25 schools so it is quite invaluable. I used my own schools service which will send out paper copies or electronic ones on VirtualEvals, and only requires one submission. Do what works best for your situation, which sounds like paper copies directly.

With only six schools, it might be nice to have each letter of rec personalized for the school: I'd personally get the names of all the admissions directors and personalize it to "<admissions director> and Admissions Staff-"
