If i am applying this coming June, when should I get the letters from my professors? One of my professors already offered to write me a letter- should I tell my professor to write it in few monthes or get it now?

Also, can someone explain to me how the whole LOR system works in the application?- like, how professors will be submitting the letters

get it now. open an account with interolio and tell your professor to send it to interfolio. ust go to interfolio.com and you will fing information on how to use it.

You can also print out a form on AMCAS and mail it to the professor or mail the LOR with that form directly to AMCAS. I think it's better to do it with interfolio.com but I usually let the prof/doc choose which ever is easier or preferred for them. Don't worry about it so much. It's a lot easier to understand once you actually get on the website and start your application.

I would ask for them now. Sometimes they take weeks/months to write. And if they write it right away and you want, they will usually "update" the letter sooner to the application time if you need them to.

The website is fairly simple. There are 9 sections:
Identifying Information-easy basic stuff
Schools Attended-list the colleges that you attended
Biographic Information-easy basic stuff
Course Work-this one takes a while. You're supposed to have a transcript and list the courses that are on the transcript and the grades you got. Don't worry too much about getting it perfect because you also have to send them an official transcript from your school so any mistakes you make they'll correct (mind you, don't try to lie). They provide you with a form that you print out and send to your school and then your school directly mails the transcript to AMCAS (I think you might be able to obtain it and mail it yourself as well).
Work/Activities-This is where you list your EC's. You can add up to 15. You list the experience type from a pull down menu then put the dates/time you spent doing the EC. You're also supposed to list the name of the organization and contact information. You'll have up to 1325 characters to explain/describe the experience.
Letters of Evaluation-For this one they want information about each person you got a letter from. Once you put that in they offer "Print Letter Request Form" (By now you should already have the letter, don't wait till you start your app). You can mail the LOR with this form to AMCAS or you can use interfolio.com.
Medical Schools-This is where you put in the medical schools that you want your application to go to. You do know that there are different application services for DO and MD right? So you can only choose MD schools through the AMCAS.
Essay(s)-You write your personal statement here. You have up to 5300 characters.
Standardized Tests-Your MCAT scores will show up here when you take the test. You do have to list when you will take it and if you've already taken it. You don't have to put in your scores however.


This is just a brief summary and I could have left some stuff out, but it will become much clearer when you actually start to apply. There is also a thread where you can ask AMCAS questions. Most of the questions have already been asked so you can read over that thread if you want more information. 🙂

I just found this all out today.
Basically you get your LOR's ready well before June, it's just better.

Easy process is too use interfolio. It's a website.

You can pay 20 bucks for a year membership, and it gives you like an ID etc, ask for LOR's from professors then direct them to the interfolio site, they set up a free account, (because they are writing it, so there's no cost for them) and they end of sending it to your interfolio account, it stores the LOR's in there and when it comes time to applying, you can transfer the stored LOR's on interfolio straight to AMCAS.

AMCAS and Interfolio basically have the same procedure for Profs to submit letters. However, interfolio lets you get your letters now and stores them for multiple years. Amcas won't accept letters until May and deletes them at the end of the cycle.

Use interfolio and get your letters now. Go to there website and read how it works for yourself instead of relying on second hand info.
