I apologize in advance if a similar question had been posted previously. I tried doing a quick search and didn't find anything related to my question.

Do most people use the ophtho LORs and/or personal statement for the ERAS application? Obviously the letters and personal statement are going to be focused on ophtho being a good fit for the applicant, but would the content need to be at least modified for the ERAS application? Someone told me that I could use the same ones (with no changes), because the PGY-1 program directors would know that most people who do prelim/transitional yr programs will ultimately pursue something else.

Kindly let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

I copied and pasted everything from the SFMatch into ERAS. Personal statement unchanged except for adding literally one sentence tacked awkardly onto the end about how I "needed to be comfortable as a physician before entering ophtho residency and I was glad to be considered for a chance to grow as a physician during my intern year at your program" or something like that. Got my LOR writers to give me two copies of their letters, sent one with my SFMatch, one to ERAS. All my extracurricular/volunteer/research stuff was copied from SFMatch, pasted into ERAS.

So yep, the advice you got is exactly what I got, exactly what I did, and it worked out well for myself and others I knew.

Fantastic. That would make things a lot easier. Thanks, ophthope!
