LORs for California Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What is the secret LOR formula to be able to apply to as many OOS as possible?

What was your spread?

What does this have to do with letters?

I applied to 7 in-state, 25 OOS last cycle. I think that's reasonably typical.

Don't certain schools want LORs from different disciplines?

I.e. 2 from Sci, 1 from Non-Sci, 1 from Other.

I don't want to find out later in the cycle that I didn't have the required LORs 🙁

Look at the MSAR and the info from each school to find out what they need. I had 3 science, composite, 1 from an employer, 1 non-science, and two from PIs.

Youll be fine with 2 science, 1 non-science, 2 others (preferably 1 research, 1 volunteer). Be sure one of the above is from a professor within your major. I think only a few schools fall outside of this formula and more LoRs might not be accepted by some schools.
