Hey everyone!

Just curious, is it typically expected to use new LORs if you're reapplying, or is it okay to use the same letters (and if so, do we need to update the dates on the letters/give any updates)? I feel as though new letters aren't really possible unless you take 2-3+ years before reapplying.

Nice name lol

Edit: to answer your question, the recommendation I got from my alma mater's premed office was to reach out to the professors/supervisors/PIs I asked for letters and see if they could resubmit with a fresh date. People are less likely to put much stock in letters from 3 years ago. Obviously if it isn't possible to get an updated date, then you gotta go with what you've got

Thanks for the reply! Do you think letters that are ~1 year old would need to be updated?

Reapplicant here with no issues with my LORs this year. I had my employer update his letter and added a new letter from volunteering, but otherwise all of my other letters (MM experience job and professors) weren't updated and had the same date/content as last year.

Some schools require you to submit at least a few new letters, others don't specify. My premed advisor said feel free to re-use letters if you are still in that position/activity and update the ones that you aren't a part of anymore as you should have started a new position, taken another class, or done additional shadowing to bolster your resume to re-apply anyway.
