hey guys, quick ?

i'm applying this cycle, and both my science letters are from lab professors. i felt like i got to know them much better than some of my lecture professors who didn't even bother to take attendence. i didn't go to a huge school (med size lib arts college), but i felt like a letter from a lec prof would've been silly. my non sci letter is nice (from someone in my major), and i have both a DO & MD letter.

i AM starting an MS program at my top choice in the fall. would it be better to replace one of those lab letters with a grad school letter, esp since it would be from the school i'm applying? (NYIT, NYCOM).

thanks for your thoughts.

one thing to consider, if you are starting a graduate program, some medical schools would like to see you complete that before you apply to medical school.

I have done some research and it seems like some adcoms dont like to disrupt your course of education. This however isnt true for people in 1 year programs who will finish before fall '07

the MS is a one year program, so i should be finished before fall 07 (in otherwords, i would graduate with the MS aug 07). the director of the program told me if for some reason i didn't finish the MS, she didn't see it as a problem (she teaches in both programs), and they would allow me to finish it while matriculated at NYCOM. but hopefully it wont even come to that.

my more pressing question is with the issue of LOR's. two lab profs from undergrad, or 1 lab prof, 1 grad school prof?

thanks again :luck:

I would definitely get the letter from the NYIT prof. NYCOM does not require that you have all of your LORs in before interview so you could try to get the LOR in Nov/Dec. If I remember correctly NYCOM did only 1-2 weeks of interviews before december ended this application season.

Be sure to tell your prof you need an LOR when fall semester starts. It'd be nice if he wrote your letter before winter break. If he falls through then you have the other LOR as backup.
