LORs from pre-med advisors?

I think I've read somewhere that some schools require letters of rec from a pre-med advisor. Is this true? If so, is there anyway to get around it if you can't really get to know your advisor in a meaningful way?

Some schools specifically require you to use your advisor. Other schools are more leniant and some require an explanation as to why you didn't use your advisor. Go to individual med schools website and look it up. By the way, if you applied to Tufts-->don't require advisor or committee.
