What are the advantages of doing one over the other?

If I choose the second option, at what point in the process would I direct Interfolio to send my LORs to the institutions (i.e., do you send it a minute agee you submit your primary)?

You should wait until you know that the school has your primary, otherwise it can get lost in the shuffle. Schools get a lot of material so make sure they have someplace to put your information before sending it in.

I uploaded mine to AACOMAS from interfolio. It was just easier that way... all of my letters were good so I didn’t have any issue sending to all schools. The benefit of sending to the schools directly would be you can pick and choose.

how do you go about uploading letters to AACOMAS from interfolio?

You start a new delivery and choose the email option. Interfolio then generates an email address that you can use to put into AACOMAS. I did this for a few of my letters and it is pretty easy.

Not all schools will accept letters directly from Interfolio, so i would just upload them to AACOMAS. If you have extra letters you can’t fit on AACOMAS then you could then see what other options there are to send them when you hit secondary applications.

There's a few things I'm concerned about with included all current LORs in AACOMAS.

1. I believed that some schools want only LORs X, Y and Z. I wouldn't want those schools to receive LOR J if they don't want it.

2. I am missing a DO LOR at the moment. I assume that schools will notice that I don't have one (at the time of application) and my app will look worse as a result. I believed that if I went the interfolio route, they would assume that I have letters, but hadn't sent them yet.

3. On the odd chance that one of my LORs is bad, I would like to send different permutations of letters to different schools. This is a kind of insurance that just makes me a little more comfortable.

You do what is best for you, but I would recommend looking up which schools require what letters. You may find you’ll be able to cover most, if not all, letter requirements for DO schools using AACOMAS since they allow 6 max. However, If you have a school-specific letter do not submit that to AACOMAS.

This is why it’s important to ask, “will you write me a STRONG letter”, also your letters should be confidential so you won’t know if they are bad!
