If you get a rec letter from a general dentist that went to a school you are interested/applying to, does it help your application?

Not too much. The actual content of your letter of rec and how long you actually spent shadowing there are more important

Getting a LOR from the right person that works at the school that you want to go will definitely get you an interview, if you atleast meet the minimum requirements. That I know for sure!
