Hello All,

This question was probably asked, but I could not really find the thread. I understand that Vet schools want 3 LOR's but what would be the worse case scenario if it was more than 3? Just do not want the admissions committee thinking I am dumb and can't follow directions...

You can submit extra paper ones. You just have to be careful about the rules for each school because some schools require letters from certain folks (e.g. one vet vs. two vets) while others just make suggestions about what types of people you could get letters from. Also, some schools will not look at LORs that are not electronic. So if you make sure that you've met the requirements of all of the schools you're applying to, it should be fine.

Also, be prepared to identify for some schools which LORs you want to be your primary three. Some schools flag those and then stick any additional LORs into your application package as additional information for the adcoms. It's not clear how much attention those receive, though. I'm sure that varies from school to school.

The instructions for this years ELOR section of the VMCAS states you can submit from 3(minimum) to 5(maximum) letters. If any (or one) of your institutions limit your LORs to 3 then you need to email or mail a letter to that school, stating which 3 LORs you want used. Otherwise they will only use the first three on the list.

But, I still plan on calling and making sure this is acceptable for my choices, since I dont want to leave anything to chance!

FYI; I havent seen a school that is accepting ANY paper LORs this year. This is a major change from last year. If they do, then you have to get preapproval from VMCAS before its even submitted.

Whoops, sorry for the misinfo. Sheesh, one year and our info is already becoming obsolete. Thanks for the correction, LVT2DVM!

Dont worry about it. Seems like just when we all get the hang of things, they go and change it. But I do like the improvement of being able to submit more than 3 electronic reccs. Now, I have the added worry of the schools using the "right" ones. Im already stressed about my transcripts. Ive had a problems with this every year. This year Im planning on having all my official transcripts sent to me and then Im sending them all together in a certified envelope. Anyone have any experience with this? I know the schools prefer the documents be sent directly to the school, but then I envitably end up running around at the last minute replacing ones that are "lost".

I've actually heard that if you have multiple transcripts, then collect them all and send in one envelope, as you suggested, LVT2DVM. The caveat to this is that the transcripts need to be in sealed envelopes. Perhaps when you order them, you can specify that you would like each transcript sent to you in a sealed envelope?

Caveat #2: make sure it is acceptable with your schools. Cornell, for one, is pretty explicit: "Have official transcripts sent directly to the DVM Admissions Office from each college you have attended.
DO NOT SEND TRANSCRIPTS YOURSELF, but ask your college to send them directly to our Admissions Office."
