Hey SDN,

So I am changing schools and plan on applying next year. Should I obtain LORs from the Dr's I work with or should I wait 1 year and ask? Also, where can I have the LORs stored if I do get them now cause I obviously can't have access to them cause that's unethical and I doubt they will accepted

Do it now. A strong letter that's a year old is better than a weak recent letter.

Yea, ask your pre-med department to hold on to them. If you change schools have them forward them to the new department. The UofU kept a letter of recommendation of mine for 3 years, until I remembered it was there. (by the way, WAY too long to still use, of course) Interfolio.com will hold onto your letters too. You have to pay the minimal monthly fee to keep your account open the whole time. Look into whether you can close and reopen your account to save money without deleting your letters.
In the end, I agree to have a year old good letter, than run the risk of a recent weak letter. No older than a year and a half.

Another option is to ask for the letter now, store it in interfolio, then come back in a year and ask for an updated letter (just ask the writer to change the date), he or she probably saved the letter or can access it through interfolio (if you go that route). also, interfolio's subscription is for a year and it's not that bad.

thanks guys ill try to get the LOR while my greatness is stored in the person's memory lol yeah will definitely look into interfolio....

if worse comes to worse can i still ask for one from the same person next year ? Will it matter that i will not have seen them in one year?
