For you local people who might know the reputations of different institutions in LA (I'm in West LA, but can commute):

Where would you recommend taking classes to boost GPA and/or pre-reqs if not doing a formal post-bacc?

Been out of school since 2005, but GPA was low and don't think I'll get into most post-bac programs at this time. I might be able to do SOME UCLA Extension classes (due to cost), but have heard mixed reviews on quality of classes (ex: some classes only have "virtual labs" online).

the Cal States have an open university system in which you can take any classes without formally enrolling as a student.

the caveat is that if a class is full, then you probably can't get in because as an open university student, you have the lowest priority when it comes to registration. but the good news is that many of the upper level science courses in biology are seldom full.

i would take classes at cal states and not UCs if possible.
