Hello everyone, I am new to SDN but I just wanted to ask a quick question. I have been accepted to 2 medical schools and I have a solid GPA and MCAT score. However for some reason my senior year has not been that great and there is a possibility that I might get a C (possibly 2) in my final semester. I know its terrible and it is probably because I took my foot off the proverbial pedal so to speak. The medical schools I was accepted to said that the acceptances are conditional and that I have to submit my final transcript. I may be a bit paranoid but have any of you heard of people losing their acceptance because of bad grades in their final semester?

You've still got an opportunity to pull them up. Don't worry about it yet - nail the finals and you'll be fine.

Technically, you're supposed to "maintain" whatever grades you have, but I have not heard of anyone losing their acceptance over a C. The schools know that we've been busy running around for interviews, and they also know that any average person will stop giving a crap about their biostats or spanish course once they are accepted. Just don't get any D's or fail anything.

Congrats btw!:luck:

I think it varies from school to school. For the University of Maryland for example, as long as you get a C- or above it doesn't matter

haha. no offense, but I don't think those are valid justifications.

Instead of worrying about it, why not call the schools and ask (anonymously) what the conditions of their acceptance might be.

I'm in the same boat. I really I hope I don't get a C in my biochem class, but it doesn't look that good. The same with my environmental chemistry class. Finals start the end of next week I hope I can get it together...

I'm in the same boat. Hoping it doesn't come to it, but theres a 50/50 shot of my getting a C in neuroanatomy. Figure that as long as I pass all my classes, I should be fine.

Even with a C, I'm still on track to graduate with Magna. Thank god for having enough units that my GPA is buffered.

hey raryn, did you decide which school you were going to go to yet?

doesn't make a difference..you can even get an F and a school is not going to revoke your acceptance--stop stressing.

I literally missed an entire 1/3 of the semester from interviews. My grades certainly aren't at the same level they were when I applied, but I'm still passing. I highly doubt that there are any med schools that wouldn't be sympathetic with me cause of this. As long as you graduate and pass all your classes I wouldn't worry.

I can understand the grade decline... Our minds are ready to move on to med school and leave undergrad behind. We only have around a week left at my school, but I'm almost certain of my grades (4 A's and 5 B's)... it doesn't look bad like that, but when you consider the A classes were worth around 1 credit and the B classes were worth around 3-4 credits you can tell I slacked off a little...

I've noticed the OP's question is pretty common on this forum around this time of year... so you're definitely not the only one dealing with it.

I think it'll be okay, just keep pushing to the end of the semester.

i dont think u'll lose acceptance.. besides, I think med schools are pretty loyal to their acceptees lol

Hey guys, thanks alot for the insight. Like I said before I probably am being a bit too paranoid and so I am going to just stop worrying now. I will do my best on the finals and see how everything turns out. I know for a fact that I won't fail or get below a C. Thanks again for the responses.
