I'm a reapplicant with MCAT in low 30's and 3.8 GPA.
I've had a year of lab research, been working 1.5 yrs at clinical research, and have had many years of volunteering.
I applied last year to only a handful of schools and got secondaries for almost all of them but no interview. This year, I applied to near 30 and got 25 secondaries, out of which i completed 18. My problem this year is that I applied late (august) and now that i call the admisisons, they refuse to take updates for my application and they keep telling me that they've been interviewing a lot.

I'm all out of ideas and dont know what i can do to get an interview. I dont even know where I stand in the applicant pool. My confidence has dropped and I've lost all hope. Any advice out there? How can i get the admissions office to take my update before the interview?

That's why folks say apply early....hang in there and wait!! Not much else you can do at this point....live and learn!!

Your stats seem solid....🙂

I agree there is nothing else to do you will hear something.

and for those preparing for next year send the amcas and aacomas that first day by now you would have at least one acceptance if your stats are strong some of us are already cancelling interviews

When you say you applied in aug are you talking primary or secondary?
When were all your applications complete at each school?
That is the real timeline that is important.

In any case, there is not much you can do.
If you have any connections at any schools, try to use them.
Even if you know a student at one of the schools, maybe they know someone in the admissions office.

If not, just learn your lesson and have everything in the first day next year.

Also, make sure there is nothing in you app holding you back and have good school choices. 30 is a good number of schools, but not if you choose the wrong ones.
:luck:

may i ask if you are applying for allopathic schools, osteopathic schools, or both?

I didnt apply to OD's. I dont know. If i'm doing med school i want to have an MD not an OD. I know its harder to get residencies with an OD.

It's "DO", not "OD", for osteopathic doctors. Actually they may have an easier time getting residency in certain areas, since they have their own residencies in things like derm and orthopedics. These would be DO residencies, though...it's true they have a harder time getting into allopathic hospital residencies.

Also, did you check your application for spelling mistakes. Not to be completely rude, but you spelled "confidence" wrong in your title on this thread. Those little mistakes can sometimes affect your personal statement, etc. negatively if someone notices them. They have to split hairs because there are so many qualified applicants each year.
