So I was super excited when I got an II to my favorite in state school. But now that I've been rejected I am struggling to focus on my school work. I know what I need to do and I know that I have to graduate. I think if I had received an acceptance or a wait list I would have been the opposite. I would be motivated by knowing where I am going next year and knowing that they expect me to succeed this year.

Mostly this was just a vent because I know what to do. All I need to do is continue doing well in school. Until I get rejected from every school I applied to there is nothing to worry about. Even then I would just occupy my time with productive things while I fixed my app for the following year.

I feel the same way! I got my rejection, post-interview, in the mail today from my #1 choice school. Broke my heart that they didn't even put me on the waitlist (although, if I were on the waitlist, I'm sure I would be complaining as well!).
I'm scrambling now thinking--what if I don't get in at all this year?! I had thought this interview had gone well--even better than the other interviews I had. It's a bad sign that my best interview resulted in an immediate rejection?

I also have not heard back from all of my schools yet--so there is certainly still hope for us.
It's just hard to be optimistic with such a blow. 🙁

It sounds like you know what to do and how to proceed for the remaining school year. This process is a marathon and is not over yet. Additionally, rejection from your top/favorite school is always hard. I know it may be difficult to see but sometimes bumps in the road during this process is a good thing. If the timing and fit wasn't right for you then it wasn't meant to be. Good luck and keep working hard! It will happen.

your list looks like a scatterplot graph.

After meeting with someone from the school I was able to find out two important things. First of all, I could do a better job at the interview, not that I did bad I just have room to improve. Secondly, I found out at least one person on the committee voted to accept me. So I guess that means I just have to do a better job at the next school so that everyone votes to accept me. If I was able to convince one person it stands to reason I am capable of convincing multiple people, right?

Absolutely. Just focus on learning from your last interview and rock this one 🙂

The fact that you got an interview means that you are definitely qualified. If they've told you something went wrong during your interview then you can work on that so that for following interviews you can correct those mistakes. I know how painful it is to be rejected from your top choice, trust me, I've been there. The only thing to do is to look forward to hearing from the other schools you applied to. It's still early enough that you can still get a bunch of new interview invitations.
Lastly, get a friend or mentor etc and practice interviewing until it becomes like second nature.
All the best!
