So, I want to get outta limboville. There are a few schools that have sent interviews already and people listed on the rejection thread that they received a rejection from direct contact with the POI. How are people contacting schools to find out? I'd like to know if I am rejected so I can move on and focus on my interviews. Is it a bad idea? Am I poking a hornets nest if I go for it?

So let me see if I've got it right...there's some schools you've got interviews with while there's other schools you just haven't heard from even though these same schools are listed on the interview and rejection threads.

My gut would say to just focus on the interviews you have and ignore the schools you haven't heard from because they'll let you know when they're ready. If you could do that you wouldn't be starting this thread, so I guess you need a plan B.

Whenever I need advice I turn to the bible on this subject: The Complete Guide to Graduate School Admission: psychology, counseling, and related professions (2nd ed.). In chapter 21 on the post-application period, they raise the hypothetical question of whether it is ever appropriate to call a program because you haven't heard a word. Here's their answer:
It's appropriate to call IF:

1.) the published decision date (usually Apr 1, but check your program web site) has passed and you haven't heard a peep. You have a right to know if they're running late.

2.) you're accepted to one program but you're also very interested in another program that has not yet informed you of your status. Just don't be manipulative about it when you call, like, "you better hurry up, or you're gonna lose me," kind of stuff...

If neither one of these are your situation, you're taking a risk and that would suck. Just chillax, and focus on the interviews you do have, right? A bird in the hand, etc... Think of it as an opportunity to practice what your hoping to be able to preach someday. Center yourself, focus on your breathing for a minute, and let it go for now. A lot of us are in the same situation, I imagine. I think it looks better if we just stay cool without looking desperate. What do you think? Did that help at all?

Haha yes, I needed a plan B. That is a huge help thanks! I really need to stop obsessing over this site. I have an interview for my top choice so I should be happy and focused on it. I have just let my anxiety get the best of me b/c I only have two and want a back up if it doesn't work out. Thanks for the advice, I think waiting for one of those situations is the way to go.

No sweat, glad I could help. And congrats on being invited to interview at your first choice school! I get the anxiety part: I think we always want one more interview invite, whether we have 2 or 20 already scheduled. For me, it's just more affirmation that I crave; proof that I'm on the right path. Of schools that I've applied to, the majority have not extended invites. It stings a little, but I try instead to be happy with those that have extended invites, including 2 of my top 3 choices...but what about that other top choice school that's dissing me...ruinous rumination. Best of luck with your interviews!!
