Well here's my story, I recently graduated from Stony Brook University with a 3.040 Cum and 2.74 sci GPA. (I know not the best gpas in the world) I got a 25Q on my MCAT and I applied previously last cycle for Medical School, to my surprise because of my extra curricular activities and involvement with other programs, I have been wait listed at one DO school and interviewed at a few other medical schools. Sadly, I was not able to complete many of the Post-Bacc Program applications as their deadlines were literally around the time of my graduation. I was never informed about the post bacc programs till about a month ago through my adviser. I am still applying again and I will be retaking the MCAT to improve my overall score.

However, I'm lost as to what I should do with crappy GPA. I had a few life struggles in my undergraduate career that sort of harmed my GPA. BUT I did have great improvements in my performance. I applied to only three to four post bacc programs like UMDNJ and even Georgetown. I'll be submitting my application soon to those as their deadlines are soon approaching. Another concern of mine is many of the post bacc programs take more than a year to complete and I frankly don't have that kind of money or time. I'm lost at to what I should do? If I don't do a post Bacc program what can I do to improve me candidacy for next year's cycle? Will improving my MCAT be enough? What are my chances of being even accepted to these post Bach programs?? What are my options of even getting into a DO school? I need some real helpful advise, please no teasing I need to this to be taken very seriously.

There is another route besides postbac. MCP Haneman and Georgetown among a few other places have one year programs, of which I can't remember the degree types. But if you can ace the classes in these one year graduate programs, it could greatly improve your chance of a DO program. For an MD program you would need to do the MCAT again and I doubt you want to spend the time dealing with that.

Frankly, with those numbers I'm amazed that you go any interviews. That you haven't been accepted shows that you need some serious GPA repair. Simply re-take any F/D/C science coursework and it will do wonders for your GPAs. Then, even with the 25 MCAT, re-apply to DO schools. Make sure you explain how you've improved.

There are plenty of one year SMPs...Drexel and PCOM come to mind. They're a dime-a-dozen, really.

I got interviews cause I have a lot of extracurricular activities involving Medically related experiences. I also had some personal problems during my undergraduate that led to my low GPA, family illness to be specific. I applying to Post-Bacc programs now but I don't know what my chances are of getting accepted. The retake policy at my University is very complicated and very harsh against students. In Fact they don't help us at all, it goes as a separate grade on my Transcript so if I do the same or worse, it's going to lower my GPA even more!! 🙁 I personally don't think there's a difference between D.O and MD and I don't care if I apply to DO schools. But I was told by my pre-med adviser that if I enroll into a Post Bacc program(Graduate) It can help me a lot? Also I already am mentally prepared to retake the MCAT. BUT an interesting thing is many of these post bacc programs are making students take the MCAT AGAIN as part of their curriculum. I don't even know if I should even bother studying for it in the first place???

DO grade replacement for your GPA, get your MCAT up (DO NOT take the test until you are scoring significantly better on practice tests). Might take some time but this is the only way you are going to get in... 'nough said.

Survivor DO

I got in with a 26Q and a 3.2c/sgpa, which was after grade replacement and a bunch of PB credits, 80 I think... and a 3.95 c/sGPA in the last 60 credits, 3.82 overall for the 80... I started at a 2.78

It Can be done...

Hmm Interesting some of you suggested grade replacement through a PB program? How does that work exactly?

No they are talking about AACOMAS allows for grade replacement so any classes you retake will not count against you GPA
