If you won a lump sum of 5 million dollars right now would you still go to pharmacy school?

Would it be enough to open your own pharmacy school? If yes, then I can start taking other students' money instead.

I would be more excited about going because then I would not have to worry about paying back loans and I wouldn't have to work while I went to pharmacy school 🙂

Yes, I'd still go to pharm school with more freedom since I wouldn't need to take any loans 😀

I will definitely goto pharmacy school, pay it cash and invest the rest of the money!!!! I will be like the most happiest guy on earth!! No damn loans!!!! lol lol

Don't kid yourself. If you won the lottery, you'll probably be on some beach rather than pay some a**hole professor to hawk at you.

5mill I would prob still go to school.. now you get in the 15mill range and Im probably more apt to quit where I am and enjoy life.

With a lump sum of $5 million in my bank account tomorrow I wouldn't really change the way I live, however, when I win the powerball when it is huge, like $200 million, I've got plans that pharm. school would get in the way of. I think I would start a real estate company that my close friends would run, I would invest in moderate government securities to live on, and I've thought about starting some type of medically related mission.

I personally think medicine is the biggest rip off in the world, and even winning over a hundred million dollars wouldn't even put a dent into the money involved with medicine, so I think I might encounter a slippery slope there. I would definetly travel, learn new things like how to fly an airplane, helicopter, and build stuff. I don't think I could concentrate on one thing like school with all the opportunities that that kind of money would bring.

Yeah, because as corny as it may seem, I want to be a productive member of society.

However, I wouldn't work as many hours once I graduated and my pharmacy would be next to a Florida beach.😀

Of course. First of all, half that 5 mil is going straight to the govt, so I'm down to 2.5, which isn't all that much.

More importantly, though, I couldn't stand to sit on my butt all day and do nothing. Like the others said, it would make pharmacy school easier because I wouldn't have to worry about money. Then, I also would have enough money to open my own pharmacy.

Money isn't everything...it just helps! 😀

I would still go to Pharm school!!!

I agree completely, 5 million is a lot of money but its not enough for me to hack my pharmacy career goals.

If anything I would just have more time to study while in pharmacy school and not worry about finances, and live in a cool apartment.

Maybe if you added another zero.. that might be another story 🙄

Id go to pharmacy school. It wouldn't feel right if i didn't go to pharmacy school.

I'd still go to school. Wouldn't have to worry about loans and would only have to work to get my internship hours and experience. I think no matter how much money I won, I'd need some sort of job or something to do everyday. I've done the sit around and do nothing for nearly a year, and it gets old, boring, and depressing for me.

No matter how much money? I agree that I'd always need to keep myself busy, but say you get 500 million, would you still go to pharm school?

I'd make my own travel magazine and travel around the world, writing articles. Even if no one subscribed to my magazine it wouldn't matter...

I would invest most of the money then go live in New York and be a mediocre professional jazz musician. And take many trips to Atlantic City and Vegas to play some serious poker.

This is weird timing. Last night I bought a lottery ticket and was thinking the same thing. If I won the lottery, would I still go to pharmacy school? In all honesty, I don't know if I'd go or not. Part of me says, "You wouldn't need to work! Get the money, kick back, and enjoy the rest of your life." The other part of me says, "But you've worked so hard to get where you are. Plus, you wouldn't have to worry about paying back any loans. You'll get bored and end up wanting to go back to work anyway."

did someone here win the lottery? jk

i'd still go to school so I can have a degree as a backup. 5 million isn't a lot after taxes and plus you never know how many new relatives you have all of a sudden. With a degree, you have it for life.

Why not setup your own lottery with the winnings? You could return 30%, use 25% for advertising, 20% for printing, and keep 25% for yourself out of every $1 brought in. 25% ROI isn't bad. Heck donate 5% to schools and you could probably get away with calling it charity.🙄

Allow me to share....For me I would alter ma career & join the Medical school😀

I am confused about people saying 5 million isn't a lot of money. Even if you get 2 million after taxes, making 100K a year (not even including taking out taxes) that takes 20 years to make.......

That's called racketeering....I like it 😍

The only thing that would change about my life is that I'd get the hell out of the slum building I live in now and buy a nice house in the middle of nowhere. Oh, and I'd get a car. And I'd pay for school in crisp $100 bills every semester.

Ha! When I saw the title of this thread I thought it would be something like "Are your chances of winning the lottery better than getting into Pharm school?". Good for a brief laugh of misunderstanding.

I'd still go to school. Mainly because that 2.5 mil after taxes would pay off school loans and buy a pharmacy. That's what my husband and I eventually hope to do, own an independent after I get some experience. Not cheap, it'll take a while. 😉

Unless it's legalized by a vote in your state 😀 . Similar to setting up your own casino. I saw an ad for a local casino. 98% payouts. I was like, so you're guaranteed to lose at least 2% over time.

I'd go to Med school since time and money wouldn't be holding me back.

if it was 5 million, i would buy myself an independent pharmacy and hire people to work in it and make more money sitting on my ass all day, bossing around the pharmacists.

if it was 200 million, i would on my ass all day long, watching cable tv and traveling every other week.

No. I could live off the interest alone, if invested properly. I would not go to pharmacy school, but rather travel to various countries and volunteer. Maybe I would open some type of clinic or school and volunteer there.

I'd prolly go to grad school and go for a PhD in Immuno or something like that.

Yeah, I think I really would still go to pharmacy school. I think I'd be bored if I didn't work at all. I would then only work like maybe part time for part of the year, and then take classes to see if there is something else I would be interested in. I would also work at other places too; I would do things that I'm interested in but don't pay hardly anything like work at a garden store or volunteer at a zoo. One thing I've always loved to do and that I would do every summer if I didn't need to earn any money is deliver papers early in the morning as like a fill-in carrier. It's just so nice to get out early in the morning on a nice summer day before it gets too hot and get some exercise. Every few weeks you get a different route so you're always going some place different. Call me crazy, but it was one of the most enjoyable summer jobs I've ever had!

This is what I was thinking too. I was originally premed but switched to prepharm because of future financial problems that might arise if I was a physician (insurance, employees, rent etc.). Starting off very stable financially will entice me to change to medicine.

what are you ppl talking about. lets say u make 100K after taxes and other expenses in pharmacy it will take u 50 years to reach 5 mill. Alot of u arnt telling the truth, and if ur doing it to help ppl then why not donate a mill to charity. no one said that. Pharmacy is competitive bc of the pay, sure there's a good amount of ppl doing it bc they want to but money plays a role. People need reality check.

As for me, hell yeah i would stop and retire my mom and do some mad investing in properties and then make even more 🙂 but save 2 mill just in case. I would travel the world too and spend a year at Disney, then half a year in the caribbean 😀 Hopefully i still have 5 mill at the end  oh yeah and throw bills at SDN as in dollar bills haha

Disney was the first to come to mind? I know you can do better than that.

I would donate to a medical school/pharmacy school for automatic acceptance.

:laugh::laugh::laugh:

Yeah, I'd still go to pharm school. $2-3 mil (after taxes) is not enough to live off in my opinon. Hell, I'm planning on living another 70 years! That really isn't enough to live off especially when you have no work to do. Besides, I agree with omnione, I want to be a productive member of society as corny as it sounds. That, and I think it would get boring not working.

Yes pharmacy school would still happen. I would have a modest G-35 coupe and a 1/2 million dollar home while my wife could be spitting out babies and be a stay at home mom. I would open a pharmacy in Hawaii (Kauai) because it is the most laid back of the islands. Then I would be closer to all of the cool places to travel to.......Australia, New Zealand, Japan, SE Asia, tons of Pacific Islands, Alaska, Galapagos. Ah the traveling would never end! But unfortunately I have to return to reality. 🙁

I would still go to pharmacy school and get a job. I don't know what I'd do if I had no job or school.

I would love to do something with charity. I wouldn't want to only give them money, but I'd actually like to help with what they do. I'd love to be able to make a donation to make-a-wish and then help with the actual wish.

I know that for sure, I'd donate to cancer research.

I'm not going to say that it would all go to charity, because I would do some traveling, but as far as buying tons of expensive things, I wouldn't do that. I'd have nice things, but not extravagant things.

I'd still go to pharmacy school. With the money, I could buy a house, car, and be debt free once I get out of school.

The "donation" thing doesn't sound half bad. Haha.

I would definately NOT go to pharmacy school! I would invest in my own business and do that instead...😀

well, how big is the lottery?? no just kidding 😀 i'd definitely still go to pharmacy school, and not have to worry about paying for it or taking out huge loans!! It would be the greatest feeling in the world!! Then I'd invest the rest of the money, if there's any left.

if I won lottery, I will buy all the CVS in the area and fire my district manager right away~😡

Yeah, because as corny as it may seem, I want to be a productive member of society.

However, I wouldn't work as many hours once I graduated and my pharmacy would be next to a Florida beach.😀

Amen to that! 😎

Are you kidding me? Just crunch the numbers: If you simply put $2.5 million in a savings account yielding 4%, you'd have $100,000 every year, forever! If that is not enough for you to live on, why are you entering pharmacy?
If I won $5 million (or $2.5 million after taxes), I would get a PhD in Microbiology and begin working on the cure for HIV.
I may go to med school, but if I didn't, I would help send doctors overseas to provide healthcare in chronically underserved areas.
I would set up perpetuities to sponsor 20 children, and I would travel the world. I would study music a conservatory (any would do, as long it is world renowned) and learn to play the piano.
I would then take 5 years off, read the entire Encyclopedia Britannica twice, and then appear on Jeopardy and win more money 😀.

Hmmm, forgot about interest. Still doesn't change my mind about pharm school though 😀

If I won the lottery, I'd invest, give some away, and come out of pharmacy school with no loans. Going into pharmacy was never about $ for me.

loool  that sounds awesome. hey, that gives me an idea. if i won the lottery, i would buy all the cheap-a$$ Rite-Aid pharmacies, fire the entire corporate management level, and run things right!

sounds cool

Yeah I'd still go... $5M is not that much. If you buy a nice house in California and have a nasty coke habit, that $5M is not enough. Need back up plan.
