Hey guys,

Quick question here, which kind of loupes do you prefer, flip-up or the basic through the lens, and why?

TTL-They have a wider field of view. They are generally much lighter than the flip ups. IMO The slight weight difference makes a huge difference after a couple hours. Also when I start clinic I think I'll be less tempted to touch anything by my face (ie flip the loupes up when I have my gloves on) than if I had the TTLs.

I like the Surgitel brand. They are especially nice for those who wear both eyeglasses and contact lenses, because you can interchange blank lenses or prescription lenses.

Surgitel were my first pair loupes...and to be honest.. they are rather heavy (at least my dent school issued model) and not very comfortable.

i'd recommend "designs for vision".

Don't waste your money! I bought a pair, used them 2 times, and tossed them down to a 1st year!

no offense, but did u learn how to use them??

i'm to the point where i feel naked when i'm not wearing them...

...i wont even go into the benefits for your back and neck...

So at UCLA SOD, we are required to loupe. Four vendors came to our school yesterday showing off all they have, and I left with my head spinning. There are so many choices that I don't know what to go for.

It seems like I'll be going with Through The Lenses (TTL). I like the tight fit, and the wide view. Flip Ups don't have nice views like the TTL.

TTL's Advantages:
* Wider field of vision
* Lighter
* Tighter fit

TTL's Disadvantages:
* Will have to adjust in the future when my prescription changes
* May strain my neck since I'll have to tilt my head to see patients

Flip Up Advantages:
* More versatility in terms of vision
* More sanitary

Any thoughts out there?

Why would flip ups be more sanitary? Wouldn't you adjust them more than TTL?
