I'm in the final stages of decision making for loupes and I'm struggling between Zeiss 3.3x or DFV 3.5 EF. I've been reading thread after thread and the DFV 3.5 EF seems to have favor but everyone says the Zeiss lenses are unbeatable. Does anybody have a direct comparison of the two? I'm not a big person so the weight of Zeiss is a bit of a deterrent. Is the quality of the magnification really that different between these two brands? For me, money is not the issue since this is a long term investment and it is important to me to have quality as I hope to take these into my dental career as well. Opinions anyone? Thanks!

Both Zeiss and DFV (as well as Orascoptic, Surgitel and others) have very good optics. I feel that Zeiss optical quality is slightly better, but not by much.

Zeiss only comes in Flip-up style and DFV only comes in TTL style, so you can't really compare apple-to-apple btwn the 2.

If the weight, comfort is your top priority then
Go with TTL, instead of Flip-up
Go with direct optics, instead of Prism or EF
Go with newer, smaller ocular at 3.0x or less.

Hope this helps.
