Anyone got a say on them...

When should I get them? What brand? What magnification? etc...
 
2.5X is a good start. it seems like a lot of money to lay down but once you start operative you will find loupes are well worth the $1000 price tag.

FWIW, you'll probably get a discount. Ours sold for $650-$800, depending on the company.
