I'm currently a sophomore in undergrad and have only a few science classes left. My BCPM is around 3.45 and overall GPA is 3.58, and I am aiming for med schools in southern California. Is this still possible?

If you were on the east coast you would be a solid state school candidate and top 30 reach. I don't l know about Cali.

What does top 30 reach mean? And what do I need for Cali? Also, I do have another year before I apply, so should I take more BCPM courses?

It'll be tough, but if you apply to DO schools in the region (Western COMP, AZCOM, etc), you'll have a better shot. California schools are very competitive and your GPA is subpar. Without further information about EC's, MCAT, etc, I'd have to say that you're looking at a tough path ahead if you want to stay in SoCal.

He means that, if you were a non-CA resident, you would be well-served applying to your state schools and to top 30 schools. However, you are a CA resident, and therefore cannot rely on your state schools as safeties.

Would it help that I am minoring in music and have other "diversity" things?

UCLA, UCSD, USC... have you seen their statistics in the MSAR?

Just do well on the MCAT. I wouldn't be too picky about schools. just because you don't get into med school in socal shouldn't prevent you from becoming a doc.

I had a similar GPA but had success this cycle as well. Just redeem yourself on the MCAT. pm me if you have any questions.

Gluck
