hey all.

so i just got my july 31 mcat back and it was less than stellar. 20Q (i thought it was a lot better than that...really really frustrating)

gpa is ehh 3.2, science-3.1 but i have really strong ECS (medical assistant for a peds office, research associate in a hospital, various leadership and community service positions...etc) and strong LORs.

i luckily also have the "underrepresented in medicine" card but i dont know if even that will help my low gpa and low performance on the MCAT.

i have a really solid clinical research position right now which I could potentially extend for another year, but I don't know if I should just apply now to my MD/DO/Caribbean schools and hope for the best or just take another year off and try again next fall. i guess you never know until you try but i also want to be realistic and not waste hundreds of dollars.

advice please. i know that i really really really need to take the MCAT again but yeah...im in a pickle.

im also from NY state and I was a d1 athlete.

You have zero chance of a US med school acceptance right now. Spend another year improving your GPA and retake the MCAT, perhaps after taking a formal classroom prep course.

I'm in the same boat as you with slightly higher stats. 22Q from last year, waiting for my score from Aug 6, 3.5 GPA, and underrepresented. No idea what to do since I'm a first time applicant and already know that this late in the season, my chances are pretty slim. Going to follow this thread. I hope ppl leave some good advice. 🙂

👍

Have you considered podiatry? You would be competitive for that. Your MCAT is really low. Ross averages a 24, SGU a 28, WVSOM a 24 plus a much higher gpa. My advice is go pod or raise your GPA by .3 and mcat to at least a 24.

I think FutureCTDoc has an excellent suggestion for your consideration. Looking through some posts in the Pre-Podiatry Foum of SDN, apparently there is a school in Ohio that has accepted applicants with your MCAT score.

thanks for the advice but i unfortunately do not want to be a podiatrist, i want to be a physician. advice is much appreciated though.

Yeah, don't. With podiatry all you treat is the feet (generalization).
