I’m a 3rd year med student. I got a 407 on level 1. Can I still match family med or should I take step? I will try to do well on level 2. Not too picky on location just want to match. Any advice appreciated

Absolutely DO NOT take Step. You are at a very high risk for failure. You passed. If you are an AMG with no red flags (a Step failure would give you a red flag and hurt you), you'll match if you apply broadly.

Thank you all. I never failed a class and I’m around the 50th class percentile. No red flags.

How many programs should I apply to? Will a good level 2 make up for a subpar level 1?

Yes, you will match. Apply broadly.

Thanks. No red flags and I’m about mid 50% of my class rank Will a good level 2 (500+) make up for a subpar level 1? Also, how many program should I apply to? I prefer community family med. thank YOU

I would apply to 60+ programs to be on the safe side... Study to get the highest score possible in step2. Don't worry too much about making up for low step1.

As an aside note, you are still ok to match even IM (community programs).
