Hey guys, just an anxious 4th year with a low comlex level 2 score looking to match into FM on the East Coast! No board failures, have family ties to the area I'm interested in.
I'm very nervous because I have a 41x level 2 score. What are my chances of getting FM in a city in Tristate area? Not picky on which program at all, but location is quite important as both my family and SO are here. I appreciate any feedback at all, thanks so much guys!!

Just to clarify - which tristate area? Technically any place where three states meet is a tristate area. I’m assuming that you mean Philadelphia/NJ/Delaware?

I mean no one can tell you for sure but the no board failures is key, assuming no red flags, and you apply to less competitive to moderate programs, should be fine. FM was not very competitive last year - a lot of programs didn't fill all their slots. If you can, find out which of the programs didn't match all slots last year in the area you want, and make sure to apply to those.

I would make sure to pay attention to any specific program requests (example, some will ask you to include in your personal statement, why us specifically). It would help your app to tailor if that's the case. Mention your connection to the area. Make sure the other parts of your app are strong - (such as LoR's tailored to FM, experiences, grades, connection to FM as #1 choice, not as a backup).

I would make sure to apply broadly and to many programs. You'd rather be in the position of turning down too many interviews than scrambling to apply to more places last minute. Apply early/on time. Once you get to the interview stage, you've passed the paperwork portion. Be a normal human being in interviews, and I expect you'll be happy with the results of match.

People get unnecessarily worried about matching in FM. If you have no red flags and are applying into community programs, you should have no problem matching. I knew even people who failed a year in med school who still managed to match in desirable areas within CA. As long as you hit the minimums, FM is more interested in how mission driven and the likelihood you'll stay in an area you'll be
