I just want to let everyone know out there that if you don't have a 20/20 then don't freak out. All over this website it says that you need a 20/20 to be considered. I am already accepted to IUSD and Colorado with a 17 (and those are the only interviews I've gone on so far! I am scheduled for USC and UNLV too). So don't get frustrated like I did at first!

When is your interview for SC?

damn, all that studying for no reason🙁

Predentchick,

Are you a CO res? WICHE? Can you tell us your stats? How did the schools let you know you were in?

Predentalchick,

Congrats, your are the only person in the country with a USC interview as far as I know.

Predentalchick. Good job.
You get the #1 and the only one interview! Also, good to hear you get accepted to IUSD, too.

Low DAT scores are OK if your grades kick butt. For people like me, low DAT scores = admission committee's tearing up my application and throwing it in the trash. Then proceeding to take a flight to Houston to spit in my face for wasting their time with my application.

and you must have really impressed IUSD for them to tell you your accepted when everyone else in the country must wait til Dec. Wow

Good point....I somehow missed that. Man, I actually had my hopes up. A little.

I have a 3.5 science and a 3.5 cumulative. I do not have a degree. I know someone at USC and that is how I got an interview there so soon. I wouldn't have otherwise. I am WICHE so that helped with CO taking one of the the 9 WICHE spots. They just told me via email that I should be expecting an acceptance Dec 1. The IUSD email was more specific. They went on to say that I got the highest interview score possible and that I really impressed them! Yeah! I was nervous with my DAT and all, but I was told that for me, 19 in the sciences was what they considered, not my 17 overall. Any questions feel free to ask.

As you can see people, connections can leave a lasting impression. How do you think I was one of the first to get an interview at UCLA?

Predentchick, I PMed you...

is it a standard email that IUSD sending out to all interviewees ?

Yeah, low DAT scores are okay just like losing your job is okay. Or failing an exam is okay.

Sorry to wake everybody up with another slap to the face, but don't let this thread lull you into a false sense of security.

GREAT if you have low scores and get in.
Many applicants will be sorely depressed if they count on that, howver.

Further, notice that the OP has a 3.5 GPA, which is a great GPA for a dental applicant.

The OP is also a WICHE applicant. Non-WICHE applicants to Colorado had better have HIGHER than 20 on the DAT and a 3.5 to even have their application reviewed.

I also wanted to say to the OP: congrats on your acceptances!

You might not want to lay out all of the specifics of your acceptances, however. Many schools read these forums, and it wouldn't be too hard to pinpoint who you are.

Schools do NOT like it when other schools violate the Dec. 1 rule.

Some dental schools offer preaccetances to promising high school graduates if they maintain certain grade point averages in prescribed curriculums over two or three years years of undergrad. They also have to score a minumim on the DAT which is usually quite low (around 17) compared to the grade point requirements.

Yeah if you make 1300+ on your SAT and have above a 3.6.

Those H.S acceptances are hard!!!

you can't be accepted anywhere until December 1.

so unless you got accepted last year already, you are a liar.

bye

Seems like an irresponsible post to me.

3.5 GPA, WICHE, and someone on the inside.

How does this equate to "Low DAT scores are ok?"

A+B+C = ummm...D?

Jone, Jone, Jone... and mapro...

I believe that predentchick was simply attempting to give those with shaky DAT scores a little bit of hope.

First, a comment on Jone's blunt response: No one said, "Hey, I got my acceptance letter!" A few people have interviewed already and said that they either received an email or a gesture indicating that they were going to get accepted. Read some other posts, you'll see.

Map...If you read the post carefully you'll see that she has connections on the inside at USC, a school where she has yet to interview and didn't refer to as getting acceptance. Another thing, a 3.5 GPA is good, but is downplayed due to the fact that she doesn't have a degree. The WICHE applicant pool at CO is composed of about 400 people who are competing for 9 spots.

I don't think it was an irresponsible (whatever that means) post. Seems like us SDNers don't like it when someone posts something that goes against the pre-dent trend, as if we are getting cheated or something.

Again, I'm not trying to step on anyone's toes, but com'on. This person is simply trying to bring out something that SDN doesn't advertise - Someone getting acceptance with average DAT scores.

My applogies for ruffling feathers. I concede that I was incorrect about the "inside track".

Now for what's really important. Can I get a hookup with Halle now that she's on the rebound? 🙂

😱 Halle is my daughter man. Com'on!

I know, I know.. I have Barry as my username and then "Halle's Daddy" as my title.. haha.. its kinda confusing, huh?

lol, I'm only joking, man...as you guessed, I was playing on words.

I believe the object of my desire spells her name Berry.

FYI, I didn't mean to ruffle any feathers with my post. In fact, I've already responded to the original poster via Private Message.

My point is that until the AVERAGE dental school matriculant has a 17 DAT (and 3.5 GPA), then low DAT scores are not okay. If they were okay, then they'd be the average for matriculants. Certain schools take low scores, but the OPs GPA certainly wasn't too shabby @ 3.5

And, I doubt she is lying. Many schools will give an acceptance on the sly prior to December 1. The key is to not post about it or make it well known, that could lead to trouble.

Geez. All I was trying to do was to give those out there with 17's a reason to pick their heads up. So sorry that I just apparently made some people upset. No more replies on this thread please. I can see where this is going and it is not what I intended. Thanks to all those who were in my defense and could see my intentions.

Hey Gavin, why are you still posting on these subjects. You already a D1, so why waste time posting a response to someones post. Are you that bored that you have to respond to everything that someone says. Geesh, sounds like Arizona is not keeping you busy, shouldn't you be studying up on your gross anatomy or histology. Chill out. Don't get me wrong, stick to posting about the ARizona experience. There really great. I applied to ARIZOna becuase of the things you said about it.

I've taken my DAT but that dosnt mean I shouldn't read and comment on that board.

I think he is posting because I believe he may have some experience with the DAT (seeing as how he is a dental student!). Just because he has already been accepted means he can no longer post anything about getting into dental school? Sounds ******ed to me.

Indeed

Gavin's comments, as well as a lot of other dental students' comments, are valued and treasured by most of us pre-dents. Why? Because they have been there and done that. We should all be very happy that Gavin and other dental students, like Yah-E and UBTom, post their opinions and comments. I hope one day I am in their shoes and can turn around and help other pre-dents who are going through the turmoil of this pre-dental application process.

Remember, Gavin's comments as well as everyone's comments, are opinions. People have the right to accept/decline them if they choose to do so. However, one cannot dispute the fact that they have made it through this whole process, and can therefore give us another perspective. I'll be the first to admit that I don't agree with everything people say around here, but I do respect the fact that dental students take the time to at least try and help us lowly pre-dents out.

I'd like to give a big ole Texas thanks to all of you out there who help us out. You know who you are

second to critterbug

Thank you:laugh:

These guys have already been through the process and have nothing to gain for themselves by offering their advice to us. Their purely philanthropic efforts are appreciated by me and im sure many others. From what I have seen, this trait is common among dentists. Appreciate it fellas.

FutureFLdds is definitely correct about dentists wanting to share advice. For those who have not done so, you should check out the www.dentaltown.com forums. They are full of real dentists discussing and arguing about real issues. They are also very nice and welcoming to new members. Btw, MOD = mesial, occlusal, distal.

bravo critterbug,

Without the insight of senior members like the ones you mentioned, a lot of the time this board would consist of the blind leading the blind.

Beside, it is the nature of pre-dents/dents to want to interact and help others. We just cant help it!

Gavin posted a lot of useful information for us. I would rather appreciate to see his posts and share his experience. It does not matter what status he is now at least he tried to answer people's questions enthusiastically! I does not mean to against anyone. Keep going, Gavin!

I guess you can say Itsgavin is sort of a "bridge builder" for the rest of us...making it a little easier...many of you will know what I mean...

Actually, yes, I am that bored. You try sitting through 8 hours of lecture each day and then let me know how you feel.

Again everybody on here is so dang sensitive, I wasn't putting Gavin down at all. I don't think he takes any other way. everyone else just take a chill pill. The girl was just trying to give a little hope, however misguided the attempt was, she was trying to give a little hope to those that are not exceptional canadates for dental school. How dare everyone in here attack this girl like she is evil. I would rather be hopefull than no hope at all.

im with hockey d...

hockeydentist. I am not againsting you. As my previous posts, I definitely everyone is different. 17 DAT does not mean out of the dental schools at all!!! I can rasie two examples of my ex-classmates who get into dental schools without amazing backgrounds. Don't worry if you are applying for next year, be aggressive to contact with the schools and enhence other fields (like dental shadowing, community service, taking more upper courses) and I believe some dental schools definitely open their arms for you.
What I want to say is it might be time consuming to answer and post in this forum especially like Gavin that he answers most of the questions. He might have his own view about the entrance criteria, but we can have ours?

i think gavin's posts are all professional, intelligent, and valuble to all of us.

keep it up gavin.

Thanks guys, but let's bring this thread back to the topic at hand. It's not a discussion about me 😀

And a final reminder: 80% of the stuff on SDN is opinions.

The other 20% is stuff you'd better do! 😉

So, does that last message fall into the 80% or the 20%????

Also, just wanted to say thanks to everyone out there who takes time to post. I think it's a good beginning to discussions and interactions in the dental community. I know it seems to help me and I enjoy hearing other people opinions.
