Hi all,

I don't know much about the UCSF-East Bay program... Was just wondering if anyone had interviewed there already or know something good or bad about the program that would like to share with me?

Thanks a lot

Howard

Interviewed there on Dec. 3rd.. actually got to interview with Alden Harken, chair of the program, same guy who authored Surgical Secrets and a fantastic teacher. The day was kind of longer than the usual (7-4) since they had us attend Grand rounds then a resident run ABSITE review. Tours, lunch and then interviews wrapped up the day..you get to see the two main hospitals : Kaiser Oakland and Alameda County...residents seem well-trained and prepared..a lot of trauma conisdering the location even though Alameda is a level II for now-that will soon change to level I. If you really love the bay area like me, then I would encourage you to go if you get a chance.

EastBay is a large community program south of San Fran, located in Oakland. They have a large trauma volume, as well as good mixture of other general surgery cases. Oakland is not the best place to raise a family but is close to SF.
