low GPA. from berkeley. chances at optometry schools?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
if u have a good oat/ super extra circs/ voluntter/ leadership/ lots of work during school i think schools will take that into consideration, plus, ur from berkeley. there are always outliers to the school's averages cuz u knooow there are people with 380s 4.0s who got in, thus, there would be a small handful of people from the other side too. but yea, ur application has got to stand out in some other way. just my thoughts. g'luck!

If you haven't already, I would suggest you get work experience in the field or do an internship. If you still like the profession, I would recommend studying for the OAT and see how well you score. A high score on the OAT and some of the other things mentioned above may help. You'll never know unless you try! Good luck!

Not to mention if u get an internship, get to know the optometrist very well and have him write a letter of rec for you. It'll do wonders, especially if the OD has some sort of ties with the school you're applying to.

I think you have a shot...gotta try!
