I am very concerned about my chances of getting into dental schools so I am currently looking at other ways to get into dental school. i have a low gpa which is a 2.9 and a 2.8 science GPA but i have a 24 on the DAT. I was wondering my chances of getting into dental schools and the best ones to apply too also if i dont have a chance what post bacc programs should i look into and how do i got about looking for the best post bacc program for me.

Thank you!!!!!

I was in a similar position as you. My undergrad GPA was at 2.99, but I hadn't taken any of the pre-requisite courses, so that helped me to raise it just a bit. My DAT was definitely lower than yours at 22 overall. I received 1 interview this cycle, and 1 acceptance so definitely schools you apply are important.

the way i approached my school selections was first to look at the % of out-of-staters accepted (low out of state acceptance = only exceptional out of staters accepted) > whether i met all the class requirements > then avg. GPA/DAT of applicants/accepted

i ordered the ADEA school guide which I think helped me in my decisions, although Im sure you can find the above information online for free.

for me, private schools were priority for me because of my stats, then state schools that followed the above criteria i set for myself.

hope that helps

I was in a similar situation as you. My undergrad GPA was a dismal 2.4 and I got a 23 on the DAT. After undergrad, I did two years of informal postbac at SFSU and UCLA, and a one year masters program at UMDNJ maintaining a high GPA all throughout. I'm an applicant in the current cycle and have had two interviews so far, one of which I just had in Buffalo. I feel as though I did well, so I'm hoping to get my first acceptance in a week or two. My undergraduate record was probably as bad as it could be. I had multiple F's, withdrawals from entire quarters, and academic probation. If I could get interviews, I'm sure you could too. You just have to perform well from now on and show an upward trend. Good luck!

Same situation here except my overall GPA is slightly above 3.0. What Im doing is taking a bunch of upper div science courses in a post bac to bring up my science GPA as much as possible then applying this june.

Congrats on your acceptance! I was wondering, which school did you get accepted to and what other schools did you apply to? I have the same stats as you (2.99 and 22)
