Hi, I was just wondering what other people think about my chances. Im applying to VCU, Maryland, WV, NYU, NOVA, Tufts, Marquette, and Louisville. I have over 500 hours volunteering and 50 hours observing with a dentist. Thanks.

Your GPA may be below avg., but your DATs are above average for most schools. It's worth a good shot...don't be discouraged just yet

You definitely have a VERY good shot at NYU and a decent chance at your other schools, because a lot of people will turn NYU down (I know I will if I get into my top school) and plus from what I hear, they admit pretty much anyone with okay stats. Also I think one SDN'er got a first round interview with a 3.0 at Nova, so it's very possible!

strive for it...youll be in dental school

NYU doesnt admit 'just about anyone' anymore..but i agree, you have a shot at NYU for sure. You're not in under 3.0 territory which is good

You rang? 😛

It's definately possible, but at the same time admissions is fickle even for people with the best stats, so brace for reapplication. It also helps to have something that no other student, good GPA or not can offer.

Do something to set yourself apart from the other applicants. Technically I don't know if my EC's are actually helping me, but I've been a dental assistant for 3 years, and I paint 25mm miniatures and play the bass guitar (when I can  )

Remember, diversity isn't just about skin color, and I believe if you can show the admissions poeple that you're really committed to becoming a dentist, they just may let you 😉

If your app was sent out early you should get quite a few interviews. Good Luck
