My gpa and mcat score aren't competitive enough to be considered as a good candidate. My extracurricular activities are decent enough but I believe won't make up for how low my grades and mcat score is. What should I do?

marry the medical school's dean of admission's daughter

fix your GPA and MCAT score, obviously.

HeatherMD that is exactly what I was going to say...

Increase your MCAT by having sex with Salty for 3 months

Increase your GPA by studying and getting better grades (maybe a Post-bac or take less credits for a couple terms)

Improve your EC's...If you think they are decent...chances are they are less than stellar. (most people over estimate their EC's IMO)

oh we'll get more than a thread.. we'll need more than a thread!

Re-take the MCAT. My friend re-took it three times before she applied (verbal was her weakness) and is now happily an allopathic student.

what is your low GPA exactly? Because there's being "non-competitive" with a 3.5, and there's being "non-competitive" with a 2.5..

ouch.

Ok, but you can fix this. If you really want medicine, you CAN make it happen -- it's probably just going to take you longer.

Keep taking courses. Enroll in some post-bacc classes, or a second degree and work your ass off. You CAN bring it up, and even if you're overall just cracks the 3.0-range, earning straight-A's will always look awesome.

Should I retake classes I received below a C or take more challenging courses?

Definatly. If it is a prereq you will be tossed out. You are required to have at least a C in all pre req classes.

What if the dean is a highly conservative republican? It would be counterproductive eh?

hope that he has a forgiving heart; or a massage with a happy ending should work.
