I want to apply to D.O. schools this fall and my undergrad gpa was a 2.6 and my gpa from the masters program I'm currently doing is a 3.25. However, I plan to take the mcat and hopefully do well. Does anyone know what my chances are and what kind of mcat scores I would need to suffice for the low gpas. Also if anyone has any suggestions on which schools I would have better luck at applying to? I'm also applying to some Caribbean schools like SGU and Ross, what would be my chances at these schools? Thanks 🙂

What kind of masters program? The 3.25 will actually hurt you. Masters are known for grade inflation. A 3.25 will make it seem like you're specially weak at what you do. A 2.6 is not anywhere close to competitive at any D.O. program. The current average is a 3.48 with a 27 MCAT.

I think you may have a chance to get into SGU through some of their remedial programs, but realistically, we are talking about you being in the Ross/SABA zone at best.

You will need to pull out a killer MCAT score to get a look with your current GPAs. If you had a higher post-bac GPA (say round 3.7+) then you might be ok. At the moment I have to agree with the "Cation" that your only chance right now are international schools.

Chances at DO are really slim. They are a bit easier to get into than MD, but a 2.6 is nowhere near good enough. SGU is also pretty tough to get into, since they prob want at least a 3.4. Ross might be a better chance, but you need at least a 3.5 in your masters for that to help you. I just dont see U.S med schools or SGU as a viable option.

I got a call from SGU and they told me that they wanted a 3.3 cGPA and an sGPA of "preferably higher than 3.0" according to their words.

Until you address your GPA, it doesn't matter what your MCAT score will be - you will be very lucky if you get an interview invite, and even then the admission committee will be hesistant to offer you admissions. The main question that the adcom will have is: can you handle the academic rigors of medical school.

But it might not even make it that far - your low undergraduate GPA will likely get you screened out of many schools (some might not even send you a secondary).

Aim for the best MCAT. But the next step would be to take some of the undergraduate classes that you did poorly in and raise that GPA.

Don't know about offshore schools. There are varying opinions on offshore schools that are recounted in this forum and other forums.
