Does anyone know if any programs out there will accept someone who pulled a 2.7 GPA the first time around?

I am hoping, specifically, for programs that will lead directly to a med school after completion.

For the last year, I have taken upper division undergrad courses at an "unofficial" post-bacc program. I have a 3.92 for the year. Unfortunately, I have not heard back post-secondary from 90% of the schools I have applied to. (I have gotten one or two rejections, but that is all) I have a feeling that I am being wait-listed to death, so I am wondering if I could be accepted to an official program at this point with such a low cume GPA.

Thanks in advance.

Loyola does.

You could take a few uppers here, which could make you eligible for their program if you do well. I would email them and explain your situation. I was a post-bac there and did the basic prerequisites, but I know a few others in the program who entered it through the back door (i.e., enrolling as at-large students, and then they gained admission into the program later on).

I don;t think there are any post bacc programs that lead directly to med school. Sounds like your looking for a path in. Then again, I wouldn;t know for sure because I'm not a postbacc.....

You should try Drexel's post-bacc. I can't speak to the IMS or MSP programs, but I'm the evening one for people with no pre-requisites. I don't have a great undergrad GPA. Drexel admissions staff actually called me to explain myself. As it is, I have a very unique situation that resulted in the poor GPA (basically, everyone in my major cheated except me, and all these professors were fired cause I blew the whistle...). So, they accepted me. They might do the same for you, especially if there's a good reason for your low GPA.

As for leading directly to med school, it doesn't provide a guarantee, but there are two linkage programs- one to Drexel med and one to Robert Wood Johnson. I'm in the process of applying for the Drexel one right now. Good luck to you!

Georgetown School of Medicine has two programs the "special masters program" and the Georgetown Experimental Medical Studies (GEMS) program. They are both really good programs that like to the medical school. I'm actually in the GEMS program which is great. Good luck!

Hi, I was wondering how hard it is to get into the GEMS program w/ a low GPA and MCAT scores. I have a learning disability and have had to have secondary education interupted due to the onset of an illness and the need for medical treatment. I have gotten mostly C's in my pre-med requirements do to these circumstances but plan on retaking a couple of these courses before I graduate in December. Any info you could give me on this program or other post-bac programs would be appreciated.

I'm wondering if anyone can help me. I'm currently a senior at Loyola and my Gpa is 2.78. I'm pretty sure I will do better this semester so that might go up a bit. Haven't taken the MCAT.

My question is what should my next step be? I was thinking about attempting to get another Bachelor's degree in Biology (current one is Biochem) post bacc. That would bring up my GPA and allow me to apply to a post bacc program like the one my school offers (they require 3.00 GPA and 25 MCAT.)

Any other advice?
