Low GPA - Really need your input on application cycle

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
How many classes are you taking this upcoming semester and in the summer semester? If I were you, I would CRAM as many in as possible. Consider retaking at least a few of whatever pre reqs are bringing you down to a 3.0 as well as whatever other classes you can sign up for. The 3.2 cum isn't too bad but the pre req GPA will hurt you. (Look at online classes, something you really like to boost your cum GPA and then tackle lowest grade first on retaking pre req classes)

My other recommendation is to wait until your summer class grades are officially in before submitting to PTCAS. You may have to wait a bit longer than you would like but it will be well worth it to have more of a grade boost (I had to wait until the last week of August to get final summer grades....but that still put me quite a bit ahead of the October deadline. Many people miss understand this part....yes, you "could" submit whenever you want, but after PTCAS does it's calculations you will not be able to update grades again until December. Many schools will make a decision on you before you can update grades in December)

How is your GPA for your last 60 units? If it is significantly better, you could target those schools.

I really like the part you said about how ptcas operates. Great advice because applicants may end up shooting themselves in the foot by submitting too early before grades post.

I will be applying to PT schools with the 2015 cycle next summer. Concerned about my GPA. Cumm GPA is 3.2 and pre-req GPA is 3.0. Have about 40 observation hours. Any thoughts on getting accepted or which schools to apply to?

I agree with starrsgirl, your pre-req gpa will hurt you. Check on one what the schools you are applying into accept. The majority of the schools I applied into have an acceptance GPA average for pre-reqs of a 3.5 or better; overall gpa 3.0.

You may want to consider retaking some pre-reqs to boost up that GPA. Goodluck!

Do a search of the pre-PT forum for threads about low GPAs. There is much good advice that has been given over the years. People do sneak in once and a while with a 3.0 pre-req GPA, but if you're planning on it you better apply to schools with low average stats and make sure the rest of your application is stellar, including a ridiculously good GRE score.

Are there any pre-reqs you have gotten C's in? If so, retaking those would probably be well worth it.

How many pre-reqs do you have yet to take?
