Hi all,

New to the forums and feeling inspired!

Well, I recently just graduated from UCI. I graduated with a 2.007 GPA. Before transferring, I had a 3.2 GPA. Next thing I know, my dad was laid off from his job, and we weren't able to fund for my schooling. UCI was able to help out a bit but not by much. I ended up finding a job, focused on work more than school. It was a roller coaster ride as my GPA went up and down, trying to maintain the GPA needed for financial aid.

I went to my advisor and talked about my future. To sum it up, she said there isn't much future for myself and just said go look for a job. Get experience and move up.

Few months down the road now, I've been trying to figure out a stable career but always coming back to the subject of 'let's pursue medicine.' In the past, I interned for an Ophthalmologist and loved it. Became his technician and observed many surgeries.

Now, in my situation, I've reviewed all my classes, and I would be able to take them at a community college. This would boost my GPA roughly to a 2.5 (a little higher if I end up taking other courses.) Would it be better to pursue a post-bac premed program (even though I'm retaking some prereqs to begin with) or go for SMP?

Any help is appreciated. I know for a fact all this is a long shot, but I'm just that person who doesn't like to look back on those 'what if' moments.

Thanks..sorry for a lengthy post.

Google DO school and Grade replacement; it will do wonders for your GPA and it can be repaired in short time.

A 2.0 is too low to come back from for MD schools. Not to sound too negative, but you have quite a few years ahead of you to make straight A's and then go for SMP, which may never be a possibility. Most SMP programs are designed for people with 2.9 - 3.3 GPA and a high MCAT (32+). Also head over to Post-Bacc forum for better answers to you question.

Good luck OP.
