Hi all!

At the end of my freshmen year, I'm going to be sitting at a cGPA around a 2.0, and I need to get myself on track. My sGPA will be high, but it is my non-sciences that are killing me. I want to go to D.O. school, and I'm worried that I won't be able to get a good GPA within 3 years. I'm considering taking a few 12 credit semesters, but I'm not sure of how much medical schools look at the time I spend as an undergrad.

I don't mind spending extra time in school, but I'm not sure how to progress overall. I'm a biochemistry major and my sciences are high. Last semester I switched out of an insane chemical engineering program that I had no interest in.

I have 3 years experience as an EMT so far, and I have some non-medical volunteering and ER shadowing planned for the summer.

Any suggestions to get me back on course?

You have THREE years to get youre gpa up, dont worry too much. Maybe you need to learn how to study or spend more time on your work. If you take 5 years, then thats fine, just make sure you do well. I graduated a year ago with a 2.32 cGPA and lower sGPA. I have at least three more years until I get to where I want to be. But if you want it bad enough youll get there.

You can retake classes to boost your GPA. DO schools use the most recent grade in GPA calculations, so your cumulative can be raised pretty quickly.

i am confused. you are a freshman with a 2.0 so you have 2 semesters. you also say your science classes high. the only way this is possible is either you have very few science and did ok at best, or you truly bombed your other classes in an epic way. either way you can retake classes and aacomas will take the higher grade so that is a place. you may need to basically repeat your first year, but all is not lost.
