Hi, I am a pre health major/ biochem major that is just about finish their sophomore year. My first year of undergrad wasnt so great and i ended with a 2.67 gpa. I thinking getting a D+ in general chemistry 2 really was a wake up call for me. However, this year i really worked my butt off and i can end this year with a 3.01 gpa and i retook gen chem 2 and got an A- with grade restitution. I was just wondering if that there are any people out there that have gotten into medical school with a slightly lower gpa. I know that my gpa freshman year was a little low, but i really think as a student my grades in future classes will be a lot better, I plan on doing a 5th year which might help too. I was just wondering if med schools will frown upon a bad freshman year. I was shooting for at the very least a 3.3 by the time i graduate. thank you.

I had a 2.8 after year one and had a D in music appreciation, C in college algebra, and C in English. Ended up with a 3.2 undergrad, 3.9 in grad school, and a 3.92 in medical school.

I was a slacker in college and top 10% of my medical school class.

What did you do for your master's? Did it help to go to grad school and then apply to med school?

AMCAS, the application system for med school, does not do grade replacement/restitution. Both the A- and D+ will go into your GPA when you apply, so effectively like a double-weighted 2.50. What is your GPA with both grades factored in?

If you went from a 2.7 to a 3.0 does that mean your sophomore year was overall a 3.3?

Literally in the same boat as you omg. Except I'm a sophomore now but I finished freshman year off with the same gpa as your freshman gpa. Have been working harder this year-we got this!!
