Hi,

So I finished my bachelors in biology with a cGPA 3.115 and a sGPA 3.045. I am currently re-taking classes that I got C- in. I have been working as an EMT for past 2 years, have over 300+ hrs of shadowing, worked in a research lab for a year. I am also studying for MCAT right now and planning on taking it in January 2020. I am a little too overwhelmed and don't know if my application is good enough.

Are there any suggestions on how to improve my situation? and what MCAT should I aim for? I am hoping to get a 505+

Thanks!

Fortunately both of your GPA’s are above a 3.0, but the higher you can get them the better. An MCAT above 500 would be needed to have a chance at new DO schools, 505+ would put you in a better position, but really a 508+ makes you good for DO schools. With your current GPA’s MD schools are pretty much off the table. Also, you have plenty of shadowing, EMT expletive looks good, if anything just keep adding clinical volunteering. But it’s really going to come down to your MCAT and how high you can get your GPA

If you're going for DO, then a high MCAT score ~515 would probably let you have a good shot. For MD, you might want to consider a post-bac or SMP.
