I was wondering if anyone took the "optional essay" opportunity in their secondary application(s) (or PS for that matter) to explain their average or below average MCAT score? Personally, I feel I have an amazing application besides the MCAT score - which is average, but is definatly the low point of my application. I would really like to somehow convey that I was tirelessly busy this past Spring semester without it sounding like I am making excuses. I have considered retaking the test, but because my score was average, I feel even improving 2-3 points would not help - especially with the delay in the AMCAS, and/or reapplication next year. So, has anyone else discussed this, or is thinking of discussing a similar issue? Any thoughts?

Don't try to explain your average MCAT score by conveying how tirelessly busy you were. It will sound like you are making excuses - which you are.

If you are not happy with your score and feel it does not reflect your true abilities, then retake the test and get a better score. Improving 2-3 points from an 'average' score is a big difference.

Actions speak louder than words. If you want to show your score was a fluke - retake the test.

I would agree with beanbean. Unless your explanation is that your house caught on fire the night before (or somehting similarly calamitous), you'll only lead the reader to wonder "why would someone get 'tirelessly busy' in the semester before the MCAT?"
