Okay, where's a good place to get a fairly decent suit at a fairly decent price? Anyone? Oh yeah, and what are you ladies wearing for shoes to your interviews? p.s. I will NOT wear heels. I heard that was a dumb idea anyway, since you end up walking around a lot.

overstock.com if you already know what size you need. If there's a Century 21 near you, they also have really nice stuff at discounts. As far as shoes, I plan on wearing my boots since I'm wearing pants. They have around a 1, 1.5 inch heel, so it's not that bad, and they're really comfy.

A couple of places where you can get good stuff:

H&M - they have pants and nice jackets (really cheap: pair of pants 40 and jacket under 60)

Nordstrom Rack (they always have designer suits on discount)

Ebay: can always find good stuff if your familiar with it

Shoes - I would definitely wear flats. You will probably have to walk around a lot and no one will even really notice your shoes.
If you are looking for comfortable shoes: Bass has great womens stuff and are not too expensive

Good luck 😉

My town has a store called Perfect Partners. It's a used clothing shop, but it has all like business attire kind of thinngs. I'm kind of tall and skinny so I had trouble finding something that fit, but I'd try to find that kind of resale shop first before I went anywhere pricey. (It's where I get 90% of my wardrobe🙂

I bought my suit at JC Penny's, and they had several options that were reasonably priced. It's a really great idea to get a three-piece suit (i.e., one that has both slacks and a skirt along with a blazer) so that you have the option to wear either one, and that way you should be able to wear the blazer twice before dry cleaning the entire suit. (But remember that you definitely need to wear panty hose if you wear the skirt!!!) Also, I do think that you should wear heels, at least for the interview, because it looks more professional. You don't have to get crazy and wear six inch stiletto heels or something, but you can't go wrong with a pair of plain, low-heeled pumps. I think I paid $15 for mine at a discount shoestore. If you're worried about making it through the tours wearing heels, you can always bring a pair of flats with you and change your shoes after the interview. I have found that slipping a pair of those Dr. Scholl's pads into your shoes will do wonders for making the heels more comfortable to walk around in as well.

I've said this a million times before --- EBAY. I got 100% wool suits, gently used, for less than $10 each. The measurements are usually on the auction page, so you know what size you're getting. Also, I couldn't find anything in my town but polyester women's suits, and I *HATE* polyester. So ebay it was.

Shoes? I don't skimp on shoes. My beautifeel shoes were $170, and worth every stinkin' penny. No problems at ALL wearing them all day and walking for hours on end. comfy, cute, and practical.

I ended up getting a really nice skirt suit from Dillards for about $70. Not super-inexpensive, but considering the fabric is nice and it fits perfectly I was happy with the price. I got shoes with maybe a .5-1'' heel from some shoe place in the mall and only ended up paying $8. I was really expecting to have to pay a lot to find a good quality, comfortable shoe, but somehow I got lucky and happened to be at the store during a good sale. So if you have time and can go to several different stores, you should have no problem finding high quality at a reasonable price.

Reeeeeally low on cash? TJ Maxx. Or borrow one from a well-dressed friend.

It really makes a difference on shoes! No more "breaking" them in! 👍

Are there any outlets where you live?

Also, check out the sales at Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft. They have some great suits for decent prices.

Time to call the friends with discounts too! 🙂

G'luck :luck:

Try outlet stores. I went to an outlet mall in my area (Potomac Mills in Virginia) and found several deals for 3-piece suits (pants, skirt, jacket) for about $100 (I paid $120 for mine). I even saw suits for $35-40 at Burlington Coat Factory... you just have to search for a cheap suit that doesn't LOOK cheap. I'd never order mine offline b/c I want to make sure it fits right. I tried suits in the same size at several stores, but only the one I ultimately bought fit perfectly. For shoes, you can never go wrong with Payless ($10-15). I can't even tell you how many compliments I've gotten on Payless shoes over the years; people have even mistaken them for Nine West. :meanie: I splurged on my interview shoes though (well, $40 is a splurge for me), but when I tested them out by wearing them to church today, they hurt after a few hours, so I'm considering getting flats for the tour portion of the interview. Good luck bargain hunting!

I got two great suits at JC Penney a few months ago. I didn't know they were having a sale, but I was looking for interview clothes and ended up getting a 200 dollar suit for 49.99 (just the skirt and blazer), and another skirt suit for 69.99. It's an investment, but I'm sure I'll get more use out of them in the future.

I got Aerosoles online for my shoes. They were about fifty bucks, but they are very comfy.

I definitely recommend eBay for great deals, though.

Yeah, but I don't know if I have the time to go through the hustle of internet purchasing. I think I'm going to JC Penney's and Filene's sometime this week. I think I'm going to buy "professional clogs" for my shoes... that way I will be able to walk without ending up in the emergency room with a badly sprained ankle when I'm supposed to be talking with an interviewer.

Hit the Payless and look for low, sensible pumps or dressy loafers. You'll be able to walk just fine and still look very professional. I think you're very smart to skip the high heels. Several of the women on my interview day wore high heels and they were all complaining about them in the bathroom. They actually don't make you look as professional as a lower heel, so it's pointless torture.

If you have time, hit a consignment shop or a thrift store, particularly in a nice neighborhood. I once scored a nice burgundy wool Talbots suit with the tags still on for $7.99 at a Goodwill. You never know. Just look very, very carefully for stains or holes.

petite sophisticate and casual corner are having a big sale on their fall suits. i just picked up a nice grey wool suit for $120 total. they're also having sales on all their shirts and accessories.

Yeah, casual corner had a good sale when I was there on Saturday. Of course, I didn't like any of the 10 suits I tried on there... ... but they had nice ones.

i usually don't like their suits at all, either, but, weirdly enough, i found a good one yesterday. that sounds like a fun shopping experience. 😉
