Low SAT/GRE

😎 Does anyone have any insight into how low SAT/GRE scores affect acceptance into post-bacc programs? Are they considered for Medical School admittance?

I have a reasonably high GPA in both undergrad and graduate programs, buit am concerned because my standardized test scores are nearing pathetic.

Does a history of low standardized test scores spell fatal for MCAT success?

The good thing is that MCAT is very knowledge based. So you can memorize the material to improve.

Unfortunately most consider it harder than GRE/SAT. The time constraints on the MCAT are also difficult.

While many med school applications ask for them they are not specifically considered for med school admission. Only MCAT is.

Upenn's special science program is the only program that I remember that asked about SAT scores. Everywhere else, anything after high school is game, anything before is forgotten. A history of low standardized scores, though not the silver bullet, may be an indicator of how well you may do on the MCAT, though by no means absolute. The MCAT is the beast of all standardized tests you'll take up until med shcool, then itll be Step 1 in medical school. For poor standardized test takers, a structured test prep course such as Kaplans or Examkrackers or Princeton Review may be in order. They thrive on helping students do better on standardized tests. Scripps, Goucher, Hopkins, Bryn Mawr, etc... all require SAT/ACT scores. As far as how important it is, it depends on the school and the rest of your application but it can certainly be a hindrance if it is below the expectation of the specific school. Obviously if you did an unstructured postbacc it wouldn't matter one bit as far as your med school apps.

I got accepted to top programs, bryn mawr, penn, gtown and some others with very low sat scores. Have good experience to show you really wanna be a doc, good grades and some good recs and Im sure its possible for others.
