hi guys, was just wondering how many of you people at school or at residencies have lower back aches, and how much do you guys let it to really bother you?
I have been having lower back aches on and off for like the past 5 years..(AND THIS IS AFTER MAKING A CONCIOUS EFFORT TO MAINTAIN GOOD POSTURES); yeah, am quite aware that lower back ache (along with neck pain) is THE most common occupational hazards to a dentist. ive been exercising of late, for like a month for strengthening my back, but haven't yet got any substantial results as yet...I'll be starting my residency soon and kinda apprehensive whether the pain would increase.... how is each one of yall coping with this and do you have any advices to share? to start off, i have attched a link which could possibly help a few people..

Thanks for the links. As far as I am concerned, I already have lower back pains and i am not even in dental school yet!!! A whole family with history of some form of lower back pain. i know for me it's my posture - since i was little i slouch - never fixed it, now i am paying for it. It's not bad yet, but it bothers me in worrisome way, cause it essential for dentistry... So i started to do every exersice (besides all other that i normally do) for back in the gym... I ended up pulling my right muscle on the lower back, did not stop, now it's getting better, may be sooner i will be able to increase the weight of lifting. Also, i never used to do abs work cause my stomach is flat-flat - now i know that i should have started long time ago, cause it helps to support your back. Also as most young ladies, stupidly I walk with lower back exposed all the time (those short shirts and low-rise pants that i cannot seem to disattach myself from), thus increasing my risk for back pains - it took quite a few back pain incidencies to put some sense into me - i try to be more caring about my back now.

As far as one month of exercising - that's not enough, i believe, and if you stop, all the effort you put in already is almost negated. So keep going...just don't put too much pressure on yourself
