So I am sure that this question has been asked here before, but I am very new and somewhat unfamiliar with this forum, so forgive me ahead of time. I was wondering if it would be safe enough for me to complete my lower division sciences at a local CC and then transfer to my state's university to finish out my 4 year degree and complete all of my upper division science courses there as well. What are some of you all's thoughts on this. One of the main reasons is b/c the cost is much less at the CC of course. Will this have much of an impact with regards to my application for dental school? Thoughts?

My thoughts are that 99.9% of dental schools wont care as long as your GPA is good.

Wrong. If you do some searching about CC, you will find some schools only accept certain amount of CC credits and some don't accept any CC credits. The requirements are listed on the schools websites. To play safe OP, I suggest you contact the schools you want to apply and ask them about CC credits.

About 85-90% of the schools really won't mind too much at all as long as you do well after your transfer and get decent DAT scores - but a few will, such as BU and Tufts I believe. There's only a small handful that WILL NOT take CC credits, but you need to make sure that the schools you really want to go to aren't in that list. I took more or less all of my dental school pre-reqs at a CC, transferred, did decent, got good DAT scores, and got in just fine. I loved my Community College education.

👍
I've talked to a couple of dental schools and they don't mind a few science classes at the CC. They do want to see good grades in upper level classes and strong DAT scores.

I actually went to a CC for a year after I graduated from a four-year and did a couple lower and upper-div science classes there. I had to retake a class, and wanted to keep up on my science classes and chose to do so at a CC for financial reasons (so much more affordable). I also loved my experience at the CC. The classes were much smaller, I learned a *LOT* from my professors, and I rocked the DAT as proof.

So just called MidWestern today and spoke to them for a good half hour. Lots of good information received from admissions dept. But in answer to the amount of credits earned from a CC- she basically said that if half were to be completed from the CC that would be fine. She said that if you wanted to take all of your lower division classes there and transfer to your state Univ and complete all upper division class there, that would be a wise decision.
