Hey,

I've heard a lot of great things about Stritch, but mostly it has been from first and second year students. I'd like to get perspectives from the MSIII and IVs.
If you can please describe your clinical experience at Stritch, and specifically comment on any of these topics, it would be a great help:

* which hospitals can you train at (and which ones are best)
* opportunities to do procedures
* how hands-on it is (autonomy vs. mostly private pts.)
* quality of teaching
* your schedule (# of hours/call schedule)
* your overall satisfaction/happiness

I'm a third year student at Loyola. I love it. A great clinical experience with a lot of hands on. In general, I have heard that when Loyola students rotate at other hospitals, they do well because we have been given a lot of autonomy and taught well.

Responses to your questions:
* which hospitals can you train at (and which ones are best)
Loyola, Hines VA, and various other hospitals in and around Chicago. Loyola and the VA are probably the best experiences--you learn the most at those two, I think.

* opportunities to do procedures
As long as you let your residents know you're interested, they will let you do as much as a 3rd/4th year medical student is allowed to do. Loyola residents, in general, are excited about teaching students.

* how hands-on it is (autonomy vs. mostly private pts.)
Very autonomous.

* quality of teaching
Great.

* your schedule (# of hours/call schedule)
Depending on your rotation, you could work 40 hours a week or, on some rotations like Surgery, you could be working 80 hours a week. The worst call schedule you encounter is q4 or q5 on General Medicine as a 3rd year.

* your overall satisfaction/happiness
10/10. Residents generally friendly. Fellow students helpful, friendly.
