Does Loyola Medical School exclude abortions and birth control from its curriculum because of its jesuit tradition?

What other changes do they implement because of its religious affiliation?

Is it still a comprehensive medical education, and do residency directors look down on this curriculum?

I think the answer is yes, from what I was told during my interview...Rush is also religious, I think, but they are more liberal with the curriculum, etc.

Loyola is very Catholic; I remember being told that an archdiose or someone up there was visiting the school soon and many students were looking forward to it. I think it is nice to see such a strong religious tradition in the school. But the abortion/birth control residency training should only affect you if you want to go into Ob/Gyn or general medicine...it is a good school.

the abortion issue shouldn't be a problem. it is true that you can't perform abortions at the hospital located on the loyola campus because that is the religious one, but your third and fourth year you will do rotations in other hospitals in chicago where they do perform abortions. so you can learn about them if you wish.

It's true that Loyola is Catholic, but they are Jesuit, which is probably the most preogressive branch of Catholicism. I was concerned about the whole abortion issue because I am very much pro-choice, so I asked about it in the interview. They told me that they will even go so far as to bring in speakers to talk about the topic (e.g., in a debate/discussion/forum setting where they discuss pros and cons). I even got the impression that they would connect me with clinical rotations where they do perform abortions if I wanted, though they never outright said it. You just definitely cannot perform an abortion in any of their hospital/clinical settings.
