The party the night before is always great.....and the interview is very laid back. Try to make it if you would consider matching there.
you can get a cheap hotel just off I-12 using priceline. i only paid $45. no cockroaches or dime bags nearby either. near red roof inn.

I was a chief there a couple years ago.
We didn't pay for hotels then and I doubt they do now. I agree with the above that you can get a hotel pretty cheaply however. Stay off the I-10/College avenue area.
Definitely make the pre/post interview party in the evening. We prided ourselves on showing the apps. a good time.
