Hey moosenanny, when is your interview? If you are staying at Drury Inn, I can give you a ride to the reception and interview on Feb. 5th and 6th.

I'll be staying at the SpringHill Suites by Marriott, and I've pretty much accepted the fact I'll be taking quite a few taxi rides. I'm starting to save up my money now, lol 😳. Thanks anyways, and I hope to meet you soon 🙂
 
Checking the maps, if you're on Essen Drive, the hotels look very near. I'd be happy to drive you to the reception on Friday evening. Wish my interview was early. It's at 3:20 when they will probably be tired, and I will have all day to be nervous. Could drop you off if you wish. Just applying was expensive, and this is costing a lot, too. (but worth it)
 
Often hotels near a university have a shuttle to campus. You may want to check on that to get a free ride in to the university.

hey all!

i'll be driving in from houston friday afternoon for the reception, and haven't quite worked out where i'll be staying that night (i lived in new orleans for a time so i may just drive there to sleep and come back saturday morning), but, most important: i'll have a car! and it'll be free! my interview's at 11am, and i'll probably plan on heading over early; if anyone wants a ride from your hotel to the reception on friday night or interviews on saturday i'd be glad to oblige. i have to skedaddle back to houston early afternoon to catch a flight the next morning, but i'll be around 'til then!

let me know...
 
hey everyone who got an interview, congrats! its exciting to see your excitement! you all coming on Feb 6 will be in for a great show, as its our Open House....and we all have been working hard to set up some great exhibits.

Anyways, about hotels, the closest hotel to the vet school is Staybridge Suites on Nicholson Dr. They opened recently, so I don't know how expensive they are, but it's the closest hotel that I'm aware of...maybe 2 miles. I live right behind it, so if anyone has an interview in the morning, I could give you a ride there if you wanted because I have to be there before 8am to set up for open house.

If not, I'm not really sure where other hotels are. I stayed at the Courtyard by Mariott right off of I-10 and I would NOT recommend that to anyone to stay there.

But things are closer than they seem. It takes at most 15 minutes to get from I-10 at College Dr. to the vet school.

I'll probably see some of you there at your interview on Feb 6! I might pop in to say hello to y'all around 9am or so.

That's nice. Last year they only selected about 25 OOS to interview....it was something new they were trying out. They didn't interview OOS before then. So I guess they liked it!

But don't worry, because I didn't make an interview at LSU, got on the alternate list as an OOS, and got in over the summer! So all hope is NOT lost! Don't give up people! 😀

Hey, long time Flyhi! Things are going great! Made it through my first semester and trying to get back into things now in the second. They have us running crazy. Besides you know, studying for classes, and participating in clubs, and volunteering for other things, they have us all planning events for Open House and the 1st years have to put on a vet school "prom" this semester. And I'm president of pathology club, reptile rep of the exotics club, and i volunteer to feed the captive raptors we have about twice a month. I've had some great hands on experiences so far with the wet labs for farm animal club and the exotics club. All in all I am having a great time and learning a lot! I'm keeping very busy...but busy is good!

And the best news is me and my boyfriend are still together! YAY! lol. He's in Florida. So everyone out there reading this....long distance relationships in vet school CAN work. Skype is the best invention ever.

What about you, are you excited to start in Edinburgh? When do you move there?
 
Hey rileydog. Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you about your gracious offer with driving. I think I've actually got it all worked out now, between the second-year LSU student who contacted me, as well as money my parents have allotted for other cab rides. Thanks anyway! Hopefully your friendliness will earn you karma points 😉

For OOS students, do you know the availability or average scholarship amount LSU awards to first years students? And how competitive are scholarships? Thanks!

As far as I was aware of, there were no scholarships for first year students offered. We were just recently able to submit scholarship applications for next year though. But I did just find out someone in my class got a scholarship because she was offered one at another school and convinced LSU to match it so she could attend LSU instead of the other school.
 
Anyone else had problems downloading the interview preparation information from the Status Update page. I can only see the last of the 3 pages of information. I have a mac so this could be the problem. Could anybody copy and paste the info from the first two pages or maybe pm it to me. I am guessing it could be important haha.
 
Hey, if you are having issues with that, try sending Jared an email. I'm sure he'll send it to you in an attachment to your email instead.

okay, so i kind of feel dumb asking this, but...what are y'all wearing to the welcome reception on friday night? it said in the interview invite that casual dress is "perfectly acceptable", but i feel like that's code for "don't wear your suit but don't wear jeans either". at least that's what my mom says.

this is the stuff i obsess about when i'm too terrified to, say, think about real answers to real interview questions...
 
I probably will just wear jeans... a nice dark pair with boots or cute flats and a nicer shirt, or maybe cords. I think jeans will be fine as long as they are clean and nice and you wear nicer stuff with them.
 
Flying in on Thursday night, so I can "relax" on Friday lol. Offer of ride to reception/interview still stands. Wearing dressier pants and casual top to the reception, but jeans to open house. I will be going early to that, then back to change for afternoon interview. Good luck to all🙂
 
I am wearing slacks and a sweater to the welcoming reception.
 
Last year I just wore some blue slacks and a somewhat nice t-shirt. It was pretty casual. Looking forward to meeting you all! 🙂
 
Do you think we'll be able to take pictures at the open house? I only ask because I was told by another school that I couldn't take pictures inside the school....

Hey! I've seen pictures from Open House in previous years, so I'm pretty sure you can! 😀 I hope you're all excited! It's going to be great. We've put a lot of hard work and many hours into preparing the school for open house.

Just a word of advice on the what to wear topic...check the weather before you pack, because its been raining here for 2 days straight and in the 40's - 50's. And the parking lots and everything floods here, so your pants may get wet from the puddles, if its still wet on Saturday. But hopefully this crappy weather will clear up for an amazing open house!

Well I took some pictures at KSU but it wasn't of exam rooms or anything like that. I think it just matters what you take pictures of.
 
Weather icky, and flight from ATL delayed 2 hours, but I'm here!!! Hope to meet you at the reception and at Open House. :luck:
 
I just thought of this, but my mom is with me and now that I'm re-reading the info it sounds like she may not be allowed to come to the welcome reception tonight. What do yall think?
 
You are not allowed to bring anyone. I asked because I am bringing my husband and he has to stay at the hotel!
 
I am stuck on the ground in Chicago and will likely miss my connection in Memphis ... Enjoy the reception for me guys! I hope to see you tomorrow!

You must have been super impressive at your interview!!!

I was hesitant to post at first because I didn't want to ruffle any feathers, but I couldn't really hold it in . . . 😳

My interview was at 10:00 AM.

I was out to dinner tonight from 6:00 - 8:30 with a current vet student who went to my undergrad. The restaurant was a bit loud, so apparently I didn't notice my cell phone ringing. As soon as I got back to my hotel room, I semi-subconciously checked my phone, and noticed two missed calls from Jared. I tried calling back, but it went to his machine (I assume he had called it a day at that point and had left work).

I started freaking out, not knowing why he would have called me twice, once at ~ 7:00 PM, and then at ~ 7:30 PM. 😱

I immediately checked my email for clarification, and Dr. McConnico (one of my interviewers, and a member of the admissions committee), had written me the following email:

"You will be receiving a call from Jared or another committee member today or at least by Monday - making an official offer! We would very much like for you to consider accepting this offer to be in our entering class this coming fall - the LSU-SVM class of 2014! We think you would be a perfect fit....we hope you feel the same!" :biglove:

I'm still going to wait to hear back from Davis, my in-state school, but I would be so excited to attend LSU in the fall . . .

Perhaps my path will cross again with others of you who interviewed today.

YAY congrats!! I'm so excited for you! It was great to see you all today....and yesterday! I hoped you had fun at our Open House....it really impressed me with how much we had going on, so Im sure others were impressed as well 🙂

That's funny turtlelover because I didn't post because I didn't want to ruffle any feathers either, but I had my interview today at 2:30 via webcam (I couldn't make it out there). I didn't receive any email, but Jared called me also around 7/7:30 and told me that I was in. I'm also waiting for Davis before my decision but Baton Rouge is so awesome.
 
Congrats AcceptMe! I'm glad to know that there's another person out there who knows how I feel right now 😀
 
No ruffled feathers here. Just excited for you guys! I hope I hear something Monday! If Lsu does anything Monday then I will hear from 3 schools that day. So tomorrow is going to be rough! Monday could either be a very good day, or a very bad day. Ahhhh!
 
I also didn't want to ruffle any feathers, but I interviewed at 3pm yesterday and got a call from Jared last night at 627pm. I saw a strange number on my phone, but decided to answer anyway. I'm so glad I did!!!

Can you believe that we made it, you guys? It still hasn't sunk in for me. X3

Congrats guys! I thought my interview went pretty well... But sounds like yours must have gone better. I wasn't really expecting for us to know so soon. I am going to be dreading that tiny envelope all week. 🙁. Again, congrats!
 
Jared said that they would be updating our status pages on Tuesday or Wednesday, so for people who didn't get a call - I wouldn't give up hope, it's hard to believe that he would call the 20 OOS and 9 Arkansas all on Saturday night. So I'd check then. Btw, for anyone else who is curious, there were 522 OOS applicants this year, so it was a tough application pool.



Oh, Btw, for all current LSU students: _Fantastic_ open house! I was really impressed how you guys did such a great job putting on everything for the community. I told my relatives in New Orleans that they should take their kids next year 🙂
 
anyone else tried to log into the status page today only to be directed to a blank page.... I wonder if that means they are updating them. Anyone have any info on when we will get updated?

Thanks! I'm glad to hear the positive feedback. We've heard a lot of great things from the community about it, and I'm happy we were able to show people what it is we do there 😀
 
Well that's a handy little counter they have at the top of their status page. Wish all schools had that.
 
I must have tried to log in randomly exactly as they were updating them.. hence the blank screen. But, I'm in!!!!

Hope others receive good news as well!
