Anyone from LSU have old Endocrinology tests for professor Karen Wolfsheimer? She just started at UF and we were wondering if anyone out there may have something . Any info could be helpful. Thanks 🙂

How's that cheating again?

Uh...pretty simple...if your prof does not allow koofers, then acquiring them under the radar and using them is cheating. If the prof says whatever, you can use old tests, then its fine. Just telling Lilyfrog to be careful. Might want to ask your prof if you will be given old tests first...if she says no, using them is not allowed, then you're in hot water if you get caught, plus the ethics issues.

As WhtsThFrequency said, more and more institutions have extended the honor code to prohibit the use of old exams. Most vet schools make it clear if it is a violation.

With that said, my opinion on the matter - if it is not explicitly prohibited, its 'ok'. but that's just my take. At Miss State, it is definitely a violation - and will land you in a world of hurt.

Koofers? I've never heard that word before. How did "koofers" get to be synonymous with old tests?

another thing to remember is that if this Prof. just started at UF she's probably not anticipating people digging around at her old school for exams, so maybe she didn't see the need to explicitly prohibit it at a place that theoretically shouldn't have any old exams for her to be concerned about...

Koofers is a term for old tests or testing materials that were either previously given by the instructor (and may or may not be used depending on what they want) - and sometimes things like "practice tests" that profs will make up themselves for legitimate student use. Hah, I know it's an odd word.....don't know how it came about..makes me thing of the old Koosh balls...

I had to look it up too, appears to be a VA Tech thing.

Maybe I'm just spoiled at my Uni, our exams get scanned into the library for almost every class and are available for us to look at. Sorry but not creating new/modified tests to me is the sign of lazy teaching and for a school to say that accessing old exams is cheating is ridiculous to me.

We have practice ACT/SAT/GRE/NAVLE/Board Certification exams available to see how exams are run and to get used to the formats/what is expected, why should students not be allowed to see the type of exam a professor writes? Because creating good exam questions is 'tough' and teachers like to reuse questions?

I usually go through all the past exams that I can, helps with my understanding of the material and helps ensure I don't blatantly miss any material I should have studied. The only class that I can recall repeating a lot of previous questions was physiology and anatomy -- then again those are two classes where most of the information has stayed fairly static and isn't a whole lot of new developments.

Anyhow just an opinion, I don't really want to get into a big debate about it 😛

Sigh🙄...I'm not saying that. Again, those exams were specifically made available to you as legitimate study material, so that's fine. But many profs I know don't want tests circulating [which is why they sometimes collect them but people always "forget" and "walk out" and give them back after they "remember" (aka copied it)], because then people won't learn it for themselves and just study the tests. And many of them do change their answers - its just a matter of studying the material vs memorizing answers.

In terms of seeing how a prof asks questions, that is why a prof should explain to the student how they are going to ask them, maybe give a few example question. At most. Part of learning is learning how to adapt. You can't be spoon-fed forever.

Yes, making tests IS tough. And when you have to make up large numbers of tests every semester, trust me, you're way to busy with tons of other things to make brand new tests every time. I don't change my questions for student rotations because if they are good questions, they should stay because they reflect the material, and I have a ton of other stuff to get done.

Bottom Line: Ask your prof if old tests may be used as study material. Because you don't want it coming to bite you in the ass. If she says yes, then fine - ask away and copy away. If she says no, don't go behind her back and trawl the internet.

Koofers is a pretty widely known thing nowadays I always thought....I mean there is a whole website: http://www.koofers.com/ but it did start at VA Tech.

Closed the thread primarily since it is asking for test/homework help, which is not what SDN is for. Also, please do not cross post in Veterinary and Pre-veterinary.
