Hey,

Regarding the M.D or D.O LOR I was wondering if a thank-you type letter would suffice? The M.D I shadowed wrote me a thank you letter for shadowing him and inviting me back at any time. Do you guys think that would work or do I need a legit LOR?

Thanks

I would get a real LOR. A thank you note is what it is, but I'm not sure why he sent you one, it seems like you would send him one...

Regardless, if he spent the time to write a thank you note, chances are he'll be likely to write you a good LOR if you give him plenty of time and maybe even provide some examples so he doesn't have to work too hard. The thank you letter will not address what he thinks of you (i.e. Are you compassionate, willing to learn, able to voice your opinions, carry on a normal conversation, have composure, etc?) The thank you letter doesn't even say that you came in well dressed and were quiet, which is essentially the bare minimum and quite honestly pretty useless...

Get a real LOR, thank you note was a very nice gesture from him, but see if he's willing to help you out just a teensy bit more...good luck
